Touring and discovering new parts of our country took on a completely new dimension when I started riding off-road with a motorbike many years ago. Once you start riding off-road, it is like seeing our country through a magnifying glass instead of through binoculars.
I spent my entire youth in the Eastern Cape, and was fortunate enough to live on a farm.
I've been very lazy about posting this. I did this trip in December last year. The pile is getting deeper, there's another trip I did in July that also needs some attention ...
And, to be honest, I've been a bit jealous watching Andy Frogget's progress on VleisBoek. I traveled some of those roads then - and it's jogged my conscience enough to put A into G.
I still won't post a full length TR on this forum. My objections from last year remain.

This was day 9 of a trip (02 Nov 2012) I recently made to Johannesburg via mostly tar – and probably the nicest piece of gravel road on the whole trip – from a surface and beauty perspective. The only reason I’m posting this first is because Pepe was asking about roads in the area.
I stayed over in Graaf Reinet at the Profcon Country Cottages, reasonably priced, neat and tidy, nothing exciting – unless you have kids. They have a really fantastic playground at the property in the back – fortunately not being school holidays it suited me well.

BMW Club Eastern Cape Road Tour March 2012.
First a quick bio of self to give context to the trip report:
I have been in Cape Town since April 2009, by way of Dallas, Texas. I work for a start-up automotive company, designing electric vehicles. I lead a group of engineers designing and testing the propulsion system (electric motor, battery and control software, etc.) for the Joule electric vehicle.
In the absence of a Ride Report, I am posting below some pictures taken on the Road Tour through the Eastern Cape last week.
2011 October -- Our Great African Eastern Cape Adventure in the Drakensberg Mountains.
What makes a "good" dual sport adventure "GREAT"?
And why is it always about the group of people with their individual characters and group dynamics that always seem to make these rides so.........."lakka"?
