When we upgraded from a Honda 125cc to an offroad capable F800 adventure, part of the idea was for us to ride together over long distances with off-road and camping. So when friends of ours told us their wedding venue was in Jacobs Bay we saw the opportunity.
Verneukpan was mentioned to me by Lance before our epic Tankwa trip. My initial responses included worries about sand (lots), cold (of the ice variety) and sheer distance (we would fit the trip into 3 days). I should have listened to a work colleague, who told me "Just do it! I know you'll end up going anyway." She knows me well.
Come and join your fellow Club Members for a relaxed off-road ride up to the Rondeberg Resort at Bullshoek on Saturday the 14th March 2015. The resort is just north of the main dam in Clanwilliam.

We had a wet start for 9 treavellers with 4 bikes and 2 motor vehicles at 09.00 at Panorama. We set off in a few rain storms until Eendekuil where we had our first stop at Agape coffee shop for refreshments and a well deserved break.
After waiting at the coffeshop for rider no. 10, which passed us at high speed, we enjoyed our first flowers (Canola flowers) outside Eendekuil and the most fun on Piekenierskloof pass (views galore and speed open roads for the speed lovers). We grouped again at the garage outside Citrusdal.
For years I’ve wanted to go on my bike to see the beautifull flowers in the West-Coast. There has however always been to many obstacles for me, time for one, and my road bike won’t take gravel or farm roads very well either. After phoning around and finding out that the first flowers are out in the Clanwilliam area I felt like really spoiling myself together with like-minded nature lovers. If you don’t have a GS, make the best of your RT.
Just by the way, I'll have you know that the flowers were so beautiful that a few hundred pics found their way onto the camera, which made selecting a few for this report very, very difficult. But, one tries...
Gavin and I went with Warren's first trip to the farm Mertenhof in the Biedouw Valley earlier in the year. Loved it, so when the call came to put names down for the same trip but in flower season, ours were pretty much first on the list.
We are planning an overnight ride to the “Engelsman se Berge” near Clanwilliam for the weekend of 11 to 12 June 2011. Warren and Natalie Ellwood will be your hosts for this weekend trip to what has been voted one of the top 10 4x4 campsites in South Africa for the last five years. This off road ride will suit riders of all levels.
This past weekend (10-12/12/2010) a friend of mine, Jan, on an 800GS, his wife, Annemie, in the backup Toyota Hilux and myself on my Dakar took to the Cederberg mountains for a little weekend getaway. Unfortunately my wife could not make it due to work requirements.
Every now and I open up the BMW forum in anticipation of a trip report of this last weekend’s outing to Gifberg... just so I can say thanks for another great weekend of riding, but alas... Warren has not posted anything yet, and I’m getting restless...
I've loved riding in the Cederberg since the 1st time I was there, which wasn't much more than a year ago... So any opportunity to do so with some friends is always grabbed with both hands.
