Clanwilliam flower fun trip

We had a wet start  for 9 treavellers with 4 bikes and 2 motor vehicles at 09.00 at Panorama. We set off in a few rain storms until Eendekuil where we had our first stop at Agape coffee shop for refreshments and a well deserved break.

After waiting at the coffeshop for rider no. 10, which passed us at high speed,  we enjoyed our first flowers (Canola flowers) outside Eendekuil and the most fun on Piekenierskloof pass (views galore and speed open roads for the speed lovers). We grouped again at the garage outside Citrusdal.

We then encountered roadworks where us impatient  riders passed many cars until the  front of the line leaving frustrated cars and 2 of our group cars waiting for the stop and go roadworks to end.

Arrived at Clanwilliam at 13.00. What a busy, blooming town - no parking for the cars in the road and we could not find the hotel parking. Luckily fellow riders Lynn and our North west province member Wally showed us the right way to our parking. We all checked into nice decent,  clean rooms.

At 14.00 the women went for the short but enjoyable donkey cart ride where the cart driver begged them to please not to sit at the back - he judged the size of the occupants first, before allocating a seat to stop the cart from tipping backwards. With that done and dusted some members went for potjiekos and boerewors rolls. At 15.00 the biker guys went for a ride in the Pakhuispas with no speed limit for bike speed lovers and all the women went for an excursion in the local nature reserve, where they found real flowers and bushmen paintings.

After that we went to sit in the pub,  where we had a lost biker soul who picked up an argument with a heavy smoking/bar fly woman, and our biker was nearly thrown out of the pub. Then arguments about what time we have to start the fire for the braai, in order that it does not influence the rugby match which we lost! Call it  rain drenched braaiers and braai assistants. We took over a fellow hotel guest's stoep in order not to get wet. "Some members became pool champions!" At 19.00 the first meals were ready and the meat and salads that the hotel supplied was very delicious.  After the big rugby draw we had our "straf doppe", in this case it was called friendship drinks (no one argued about being wet and frustrated with the rain). We all went for sleep at 23.00.

The next morning we had a delicious breakfast at 09.00 and some sun. We had an unfortunate flat wheel with one biker and our guest rider had to call it a day. We got lost because the map showed tar roads which turned out to  be gravel roads at the end.

Unfortunately  the speed rebels chose to go on their own back home, much to the groups dissapointment. It left us with 3 bikes and the sweeper car to finish the journey. But low and behold at about 13.00 we found a rebel biker and a injured girl along our BMW biker club route. We found out that the woman had fallen off  her bike on a muddy road outside Lamberts bay (we are supposed to be the roadies and not the off-roaders trip ). We went to follow the ambulance car (Thanks Belinda) until Blaauwberg private hospital, where we found out that the rebel girl had broken her shoulder. After visiting her at the hospital, we said our goodbyes and went on our merry way home.

Thank you all for a weekend full of fun and laughter.

okay, guess who the biker no 10 was.   think its the first time someone leaves 35minutes after the group and arrives an hour before the group following the same rout without even passing each other.   so blame the coffee shop and the sweeper for not waiting at the turn off, what happened to the rule about being responsible for the person behind Wink    okay i did cause a tsuname as i passed by so i never saw the sweeper trying desperately to wave me down.

Ok, I'll take the blame ( and here come the excuses:-):

I was told that the sweeper is responsible for everyone IN the group who are riding together. If not using the bike ( and it's old) I can run the 100m in about 11 seconds now what I have grown up ( a bit). It is physically impossible to run after a brightly/ luminous rider who goes past at over 170 km/h and regards the waving arm movement of the runner as an indication that she needs to avoid him and speed up :-).

On a more enjoyable note, thanx to all the people we met and everyone was really nice. Other than the incident, I'm sure everyone had a great time and really enjoyed themselves.

Thanx to Kobus and everyone for making it an special and enjoyable weekend.
