Dear Member, The venue and dates have been confirmed for THE 2008 annual tour: 10 - 12 October 2008 at Pine Lake Marina, Sedgefield, a mere 460km from our club house. For more information please visit: http://www.grc-resorts.co.za/PLM/plm.html '''PLEASE NOTE:''' I have been able to get accommodation for 84 pax, this meaning FIRST PAID, FIRST SERVE. Club captains have been tasked with coming up with rides which will have both the on and off-road riders enjoying the local scenery and area. The captains will organise the Rides to the venue as well as the Saturday trips. We'll stick info about these on the website as soon as it becomes available. ===Description of tour:=== The area surrounding Pine Lake Marina allows for great on and off road rides. As always the respective captains will do their best to plan the greatest rides in the area and will lead rides on Saturday. This year, we've got loads of lucky draws and prizes up for grabs. There's some lively entertainment on Saturday after the more formal happenings so bring your personalities as there'll be time for great chats and discussion whilst indulging in humour fuelled by a cash bar. The tour programme as follows: ====Friday 10 October:==== # '''14h00''' - Arrive at Pine Lake Marina from 14h00 # Registration will take place and your accommodation will be allocated. # '''19h00''' - Braai at the Lapa at Pine Lake Marina, salads, garlic loaves and meat (in the form of braai packs) will be supplied and is included. # Fires will be managed by Pine Lake Marina staff, cutlery etc. will be supplied, and everyone will braai for themselves. A full cash bar will be available. '''Please note:''' IF you are joining from Friday night, the price will not change if you supply your own meat instead of making use of the braai packs supplied. We encourage you to join us at the lapa instead of braa-ing / socialising at your chalet. ====Saturday 11 October:==== # Breakfast (Full English) will be served in the restaurant on the premises from 7:30am. # Respective outride's lead by our club captains as well as individual rides will depart from the venue at the respective indicated times (to follow). # Lunch for your own account # A dinner will be served in the restaurant on the premises at 19h00. ##You have a choice between 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts and a full cash bar will be available. ##Prize giving, lucky draws and some entertainment will wrap up the evening. ====Sunday Morning 12 October:==== # Depart from Pine Lake Marina at 10am. # Rides back to Cape Town will be lead by club captains, individual group rides welcome. # Breakfast & lunch for your own account. ===Accommodation:=== There are several units available and these range between 4, 6, 8 & 10 sleeper units. These are cabins and standard units. '''Please note:''' Some of these units have sleeper couches as well as single beds. ====Procedure regarding accommodation allocation:==== Members that will stay both nights can request to share with other members who will also be staying both nights. We will, as far as possible, try and accommodate accordingly - remember to indicate this when reserving. The names of the members that will only join us for Saturday night will be placed on a list. The list will be made available prior the event where opportunity will be given to indicate who would like to share with. Again we will try and accommodate as far as possible. '''Reminder:''' You will understand that payment confirms and has 1st option. In the event that someone wants to book a unit entirely for themselves, we request that the amount of people catered for by the unit will be covered in cost, i.e. if you are 2 people wanting to accommodate a 4 sleeper for the weekend, you will be required to pay as though 4 people is occupying the unit. I do suggest that we avoid this as if we should have big numbers wanting to go on tour and we have individuals occupying units, we might be faced with space problems. ===Packages and Costs=== Some members will not be able to join us for both Friday & Saturday nights. We've therefore arranged two packages. Prices are PRICE PER PERSON. (The price per couple will simply be the price per person x 2.) ====Cost:==== =====Package A - SATURDAY NIGHT ONLY===== * Cannot stay over the Friday night * Will not be joining the braai on Friday night * Will not be having breakfast Saturday morning * Will stay over Saturday night * Will join the dinner on Saturday night. '''Cost for package A = R 300 per person''' =====Package B - Friday night accommodation & braai, Saturday breakfast, accommodation and dinner.===== * Will stay Friday night & join the braai Friday night * Will have Saturday breakfast * Will stay Saturday night * Will join the dinner Saturday night '''Cost for package B = R 425 per person''' ====Catered for in units:==== The units are fully equipped (linen, cutlery, crockery and towels) and serviced on the Saturday. Please take note that the towels are not allowed to leave the units, should you want to swim, please take your own. ===Booking/Reservations:=== Booking will be confirmed once payment has been received, payment can be made into the club's bank account: '''Account name:''' BMW Motorcycle Club Cape '''Bank:''' FNB, Long Street '''Account Number:''' 500 600 98602 '''Branch Code:''' 201 709 '''Reference number:''' (Surname) Oct Tour 08 ====Further Information required:==== (Please pass this information via e-mail to me: johan@ghib.com ) # Name & Surname of person/s joining the tour # Contact details of above person/s (cell number & email address) # Package A / B? # Will you be travelling private or on a ride lead by club captain to the venue? # Will you be joining a ride from the venue on Saturday morning lead by a club captain and if so, on or off road? # Who would you like to share with (if applicable)? # Tar or off road? Bookings will open on Monday morning 10h00; please chat to your family and friends and spread the word and we hope to see as many members at Pine Lake Marine from the 10th to the 12th of October 2008. Kindest Regards, Johan de Jager Chairman BMWMCC

Julie and I just want to
Julie and I just want to thank Johan de Jager, Geoff Russell, Brian and Roz and all others involved in making this a memorable event. On the way to BarrydaleOn the way to Barrydale After two days of lovely off-road rides, we wended our own way home via Tradouw pass and R62. I wanted to show Julie the area, and we stopped and admired the view a lot. We even saw an erica we had never seen before. Thanks again - and to all those that helped us when we took a tumble too. Especially Andyman for lending Mr. Badger his footpeg. For those that are curious: About 500m from the end of the dirt on Saturday, I went into a corner a little bit too fast - especially as the corner tightened more and more and the road was slippery as ice. I leaned more and more (the right thing to do), but eventually lost traction and slid out. The bike swivelled on the right pot while grinding to a halt, allowing Julie to slide to the side of the road. I held on (because it's not a fall if you don't lose contact with the bike). Julie and I are absolutely fine (apart from my ego and bank balance). Mr. Badger needs to replace the right tappet-cover protector and spark cover, and the right pillion footpeg mount. Also, the front fairing mounts have broken. If anything, Julie's confidence is even higher now that she has seen that a high-speed fall on dirt is relatively harmless more often than not.
