Trip report : BMW Motorrad Club Cape Off-road Tour to the Transkei – August 2016

From Trevor Hayes:

5th August 2016:

Cape Town to Willowmore:

So, setting off on another exciting tour, this time a BMW group tour to the Eastern Cape and Transkei where we will be doing about 500km of off road riding.  Most folk on the tour are strangers who will become friends.

Transkei Wild Coast off-road tour with Geoff Russell *

I came across a few video clips while cleaning up my pc and thought that I just have to share it. Geoff Russell's Extreme Off-Road Wild Coast Tour lives up to it's name. Clips were taken during August 2014. Location is from Great Kei River to Coffee Bay.

Kevin Charleston posted a fantastic trip report of this tour under "Trip Reports" on 2014/08/19 titled "Bel vir julle Ma's - Transkei off-road tour"

Enjoy!

Bel vir julle Ma's - Transkei off-road tour

It's a great adventure to ride on an off-road tour with Geoff. I'm challenged in ways that stretch my abilities beyond my belief in myself.

BMW Club Eastern Cape Road Tour March 2012.

First a quick bio of self to give context to the trip report:

I have been in Cape Town since April 2009, by way of Dallas, Texas. I work for a start-up automotive company, designing electric vehicles. I lead a group of engineers designing and testing the propulsion system (electric motor, battery and control software, etc.) for the Joule electric vehicle.

Transkei report – the so called lay back trip - part 2

Day 7 – Kob Inn outride

Daan started the morning with a small joke - Why is a KTM orange......because pink will be to obvious..hah hah

Daan took us on a small hike around the hotel area. He explained some history and some wreckage stories. He took us down to the river mouth lagoon area. Currently they are having a severe water shortage and the lagoon is not washing out like it supposed to be doing.

Day 1  - Muizenberg to PE

Like any other trip it started with some motivation and a reason to do it. In my case it was quite simple. I never been passed Plettenberg bay. I always wanted to see places like Port Elizabeth and East London. The former Transkei was a bonus.

On Sunday the 8 August I decided to start to put all the things I need together. Needless to say I ended by packing the bike completely including having my clothing ready and all ready to go.

The Tour will give the participants more than enough time to sleep late, relax, walk on the beach, read, etc. While at the same time including lots of easy dirt road riding with some testing terrain for those that want to expand their off road riding abilities. (This riding will be optional and will not include our Pillions).

Wild Coast Extreme 2009 with Geoff Russell

This was to be an EXTREME adventure trip – we were well-warned at our pre-trip get-together. In retrospect, it was extreme in every way – extreme riding, extreme hilarity, extreme exertion, extreme exhaustion, extreme jokes and banter… In short, if your nerves, muscles and bones weren’t screaming, then you were screaming with laughter. The perfect recipe for extreme de-stress and 'uithak'. 17 Riders + Backup Vehicle: Geoff Russell - 1200GSA – our trip leader and organizer Kevin Layden - 1200GSA Olaf Gaertner - 1200GSA Hennie Botha - 1200GSA Marius du Preez - 1200GSA (from KZN) – aka Doctor Love

KZN - Eastern Cape

Slaap by Boetie en Henriette Terblanche in Aalwynbak grot. Vat die pad deur Baviaans en dan was die plan redelik oop totdat ek vir Magda (vroulief) weer by PE lughawe aflaai en my pad terug maak deur die Transkei na Westbrook.
