All members and new members welcome to join this club breakfast ride to the Overberg. This is an all tar ride. The purpose of this ride is to meet the new faces in the club as not everyone introduce themselves at the club meetings. Please pitch for this ride as we are a jolly group of like-minded BMW riders. Once you have ridden with us, it will all be clear why we are so passionate about the brand.
Being fairly new to the club, a short intro might be best ?
Born in Franschoek, the French of origin surname is somewhat fitting. I was fortunate enough to spend some of my formative years growing up on farms and experiencing all that goes with that, including off road bikes. My Dad, an extremely special gentleman and one of the most unique inderviduals I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, truly loved bikes, the out doors and his passion for exploring I think lives on in me.
Prologue
I was working like fury on Friday the 13th. I had an immovable deadline to meet: I had to be at Stellenbosch by 4:30pm. My previous work day had stretched over an excruciating 15 hours. I needed a break. I needed a ride. And so did 20-odd others.
Enticed by Andy’s super-secret venue and route teaser pictures, Lance and I joined the other willing adventurers for a fortifying snack at Donford Motorrad Stellenbosch.

The Karoo, Baviaanskloof, Northern Cape, Namibia, even further North. Motorcyclists from the Cape are renowned for exploring distant horizons.
But what does a Cape motorcyclist do if he only has two days to prepare himself mentally for 2015 on his motorcycle? He then explores the Cape’s back yard.
After a relaxing holiday I found myself with the urge to take on some gravel roads. Who knew maybe I would have forgotten how to ride the gravel monster. I invited a few friends and all was set for a great day.
We met at the BP-Wild Bean in Somerset-West and to my surprise a Triumph and a V-storm, led by their BMW friend, stopped by and wanted to join. Happy with the small group we started our bikes and we were on our way over Sir Lowerys pass.
First off, thank you to all the ride captains in the club over the years, I never realised how much work went into weekend rides / away trips and tours. The amount of effort these guys put into it to make sure things go to plan (as much as possible), to ensure us riders have a great time, it's a lot.
Saturday morning we left with 22 riders to Hessequas. Our routte saw us going over Franschoek Pass in the mist and of course, what would a ride with me be without cyclists or runners, yes, cyclists galore!
This ride was a dual ride with Donford Motorrad and the BMW MCC so I expected lots of interest and I was not wrong.
Riders started gathering early- from 07H15 already at the BP start point and by 08H10 we were all there except for a few who did not read the brief and were waiting at the Engen 1 Stop before S/West, but they soon worked out the plot and joined us.
We set off before 08H30 after a briefing.
Mathilde, a French student doing an internship with us at work joined us as pillion for the day.
She’s ridden pillion with her dad in Marseilles often, but this was to be her first off-tar ride.
We were eager to get going mainly to get airflow over bodies
