BMW MCC Cape Overnight Ride to Hessaques - Post Pics here.

First off, thank you to all the ride captains in the club over the years, I never realised how much work went into weekend rides / away trips and tours. The amount of effort these guys put into it to make sure things go to plan (as much as possible), to ensure us riders have a great time, it's a lot.

Saturday morning we left with 22 riders to Hessequas. Our routte saw us going over Franschoek Pass in the mist and of course, what would a ride with me be without cyclists or runners, yes, cyclists galore! Dropping down on the otherside, the sun made it's appearance and off we set on some dirt.

Those who have been on club rides, are aware of the "buddy system" and whilst it was practised this weekend, we did have a few "mishaps". Oom Adie didn't see Mr Versveld doing his best to get his attention and continued on at warp speed, where the rest had gotten onto the dirst again. From here, a few more "mishaps" resulting in again Mr Versveld waiting at a turn for the rider behind him....who took a different route....One worried daughter and wife later and we had to go look for him, luckily we had a good idea of where we would be.

One of our fellow riders, Klein Hein, was very keen to show us some new found skills he had acquired, 2 attempts later and the score was 1 to the gravel claiming a cylinder head protector as a trophy and 1 to Hein. The gravel roads however had the last laugh. Hein put down a healthy amount power on some loose gravel, which in turn gave way. As murphy would have it, the bike ended up on the side without a cyclinder protector and a nice R2 coin sized hole appeared! 15min later and some "special" tap from Mr Versveld, the hole was plugged and Hein set of again at warp speed.

Arriving at the campsite should have been the last of it, but it wasn't. I followed the GPS route into the campsite, unfortuantely no one had told me that that particluar part of the farm had been sold and now breeds very expensive and sensative horses. A very upset farmer gave two of our girls a verbal lashing (Jammer Megan en Cindy).

The campsite at first glance was rustic, but once we setup up camp, it became homely. With fires roaring and laughter echoing around the campsite the evening dissappeared quickly. The trip had a bunch of new faces, but by the morning, you would never have said that some people only met eachother a day ago.

After breaking camp, we headed out back toards McGregor and home.
Arriving mid afternoon safe and sound and with a relization that this job isn't easy, it challenges you and makes you ask yourself why the hell do we do this? But then you put your feet up, get a drink and think back over the weekend and you find a smile creeping over your face...the funny stories, the laughs, the sites and the places we visited and ofcourse the roads we rode makes it all worthwhile.

Thanks to all that came along, hope you all enjoyed it!
