Hi,
Fir those of you that might be interested, I have started a blog on my first solo bike tour, through parts of South Africa that I have not visited before as well as Lesotho.
Read the escapades of a group or riders including 1200 GSA (some with full panniers) as they attempt and conquer Baboons Pass. I never would have thought it possible.
Having driven it many years ago in my Land Cruiser I would have not expected these guys to make it.
Interesting reading with nice pictures..
My Canadian sister and her husband came to SA for a visit. A family gathering in Parys this past weekend offered the prospect of a bike-trip on some roads less travelled. "How about a drink at the top of Sani on your birthday" asked my youngest sister, Katrina. It didn't quite work out that way, but the extended negotiations turned out quite nicely.
The plan was to meet in Underberg on Monday evening. Now I like my bike, but I couldn't see myself doing about 1600km in one day.
We meet at 5:30 am at the Winelands 1-Stop for breakfast. It is an appropriate end to a week of last-minute arrangements: new tyre (knobblies mandatory for this trip), on-the-road snacks, traveling cash, and packing for an extended trip to a region where temperatures can range between -5 and 30+.
