Archive of BMW Motorrad Club Cape (2006 - 2019)

When we upgraded from a Honda 125cc to an offroad capable F800 adventure, part of the idea was for us to ride together over long distances with off-road and camping. So when friends of ours told us their wedding venue was in Jacobs Bay we saw the opportunity.

Gifberg. The only landmark on the most tedious stretch of the N7. What’s up there? That question led Lance to Mountain Passes SA’s website; “connecting the dots” between passes in the Maskam mountain range.

Background

I have been struggling to keep up with ride reports, as I have been riding more than writing! Ever since mid-June there’s only been 5 weekends where I have not been on my motorbike for at least a full day (v.s. 10 weekends of 1-3 days trips!). Addicted much?

I am doing this the Tom Sawyer way, I’ll write, every else add pictures.

So what do you get when you combine 29 special people, 3 CRF230’s, 19 BMW GS Adventure Bikes, 2 4x4’s and 2 trailers with one of the best biking areas in the Western Cape?

Well, you get a very awesome long weekend, that’s what. A weekend filled with loads of fun, loads of riding, and much laughing, eating, drinking, swimming, exploring and some falling on the stuff.

To answer the question: the TraTra drif is definately a place to celebrate: it is beautiful next to the river; sandy, soft camping site on the bank of the river, fantastic setting with a steep rock face occupied by a large troop of baboons, clean drinkable water, a waterhole to swim in and it stays in the shade until about 8am this time of the year.

Just by the way, I'll have you know that the flowers were so beautiful that a few hundred pics found their way onto the camera, which made selecting a few for this report very, very difficult. But, one tries...

Gavin and I went with Warren's first trip to the farm Mertenhof in the Biedouw Valley earlier in the year. Loved it, so when the call came to put names down for the same trip but in flower season, ours were pretty much first on the list.
