Due to my recent fall the following Tour will be led by Warren & Natalie Ellwood.

Warren is a certified Off Road Adventure guide and has been taking people on 4x4 Tours for the past 5 years. He has built up a good reputation as a competent guide over this period and his knowledge of the areas that he goes to is extensive. Warren has also toured extensively with me during my years as a 4x4 Tour Guide.

Warren indicated some time ago that he wanted a break from guiding 4x4 outings and that he wanted to get involved in the workings of The Club. He has also indicated his willingness to stand on the Club committee.

Warren and Natalie love biking they both ride 650's Warren on a Dakar & Natalie on her GS. They also both have scramblers Nat's on a 230 Honda and Warren on a KDX 200.

There are few people who know the Biedouw valley better than Warren and the food supplied by the farmer Barry and his wife is real serious Boere kos. It will be a fantastic weekend.

I am sure that you will have great fun with the two of them.

BMWMCC  Cape overnight, off road ride to the beautiful Biedouw Valley.

We are planning an overnight ride to the Biedouw Valley for the weekend of 12 to 13 March 2011 which will suit and entertain riders of all levels.

We will follow a series of tar and good condition dirt roads to get to the Biedouw Valley, stopping once or twice along the way once outside Clan William to show you some interesting places and tell you about some of the rich history in the Agterpakhuis area. A place of ghosts and strange tales.

Our object is to get to our destination on the farm Mertenhof not too long after lunchtime on Saturday.

We will then have time to have a look around, visit the most amazing of waterfalls where you can also have a dip if you want and the slightly more experienced will be taken up the last part of the Biedouw 4x4 trail to the top of the plateau to a place where not many motorcycles have been and are only allowed with very special permission. The views over the Biedouw Valley from up here are absolutely breath taking. In fact it is so beautiful that we have asked the farmer if he will take anyone who doesn’t want to ride up to the top in his bakkie.  There is also an option of taking a ride down the Biedouw Valley to the Doring River if time allows.

As we expect it to be warm, you will have a choice of three places to have a dip in around our accommodation for the night. A large reservoir right near the house and campsite, a dam right next to that, and a swimming hole in the Biedouw River that you can ride or walk to.

For those who still have energy, there are also two caves with Bushmen paintings and inscriptions by the Lubbe family from as far back as 1712 a short walk from the campsite.

Accommodation can either be camping in your own tent or under the stars on shaded lawns or there is a large farm house that offers 6 rooms sleeping folks as follows:

1.            1 Double bed, 2 single beds, on suite bathroom (bathroom not listed below)

2.            1 Double bed (shared ablutions)

3.            1 Double bed, 1 single bed (shared ablutions)

4.            1 Double bed, 2 single beds (shared ablutions)

5.            2 single beds (shared ablutions)

6.            2 single beds (shared ablutions)

Due to the nature of the usual make up of our rides, double beds can be treated as singles for folks sharing rooms if need be.

There are decent ablutions, consisting of two bathrooms for those who stay inside the house and separate ablutions outside the house with two showers and two toilets for both men and women.

Mariette will prepare supper and breakfast for us. Other meals like lunch on Saturday and Sunday will take the form of snacks or food carried with us or bought at stops along the way.

The tour will be accompanied by a back up vehicle and trailer which can carry small bags and tents etc.

On Sunday we will travel home via a different series of tar and dirt roads and we should be home by mid to late afternoon.

Costs :

Camping - Bring your own tent, sleeping bag, etc.:

R330.00 per person which includes, dinner, camping accommodation, breakfast and the backup vehicle & trailer.

Staying in the house: Bedding supplied

R400.00 per person which includes, dinner, house accommodation, breakfast and the backup vehicle & trailer.

Both options include the use of the sections of the 4x4 trail we will ride.

The ride will be led by Warren and Natalie Ellwood.

Interested in joining us? Drop Warren a mail at warrene@sdbsa.co.za and he will be in contact.

Some useless information ;

Biedouw Valley, the Farm Mertenhof and farmers Barry & Mariette Lubbe were the hosts of the second outing the Club went on after the "off road" side of the Club came into being, the first ride was to the Farm VanZyls Damme (Buffelspoort) just outside Ladismith.

So you guys just want to gap it to avoid the Argus Cycle Tour. Can't say that I blame you if you're not part of it. I unfortunately will be peddling my trusty motorless steed around the peninsula for the umpteenth time so won't be able to join you on this outing.

Let it be.

Please folks, I’d really like to get the list sorted and out of the way so we can concentrate on final arrangements with the farmer and the various other parties involved in the weekend. Therefore payment cut of date is Friday 18th February, close of business. Monies not received by that time will indicate your withdrawal from the tour and you will be replaced from the waiting list.

Thanks to those that have already paid.
