Locked gates and other navigational obstacles

I'm currently on gardening leave between jobs and decided to kill a whole lot of birds with a few stones - clear the ever present cobwebs, learn a little BaseCamp / Zumo navigation skills, grab a bite to eat and go for a leisurely solo ride.

BMW MCC Intermediate GS ride (with pics): Overberg area

Geoff would be a brilliant fisherman. Imaging him casting the lure: ''Join the Club on this intermediate level GS Off Road ride in the lovely Overberg area on Sunday 22nd November.'' Turn left at the third bushTurn left at the third bush He had 19 takers, two being clever enough to ride pillion. (Neels and Annamarie piloted the back-up vehicle.) From the Engen on the N2 near Somerset West, we vroomed up Sir Lowrys Pass, turning right onto the Highlands road just after the Peregrine Farmstall. Trips near CT: McGregor & Greyton

It was a long weekend, and on the Friday night Gav and I realised we had not really planned anything. A bit of internet research and a quick phonecall to McGregor found us accommodation for the Saturday night; the idea being that we would simply point the bikes in a direction and take things from there. We had ridden the Koppies gravel road near Villiersdorp a week or so earlier, but wanted to go back and explore a bit more, so headed out from Cape Town via Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. It was a perfect day for being out on your bike, and being mid-morning on the Saturday of a long weekend, the roads were lovely and quiet.

Trip report to Napier

In my "personal" opinion, the reason there has been no trip report is because for once the roadies outnumbered the dusties - by far. I think some people are still in a state of shock by the memory, also it appeared that some dusties froze their b...s off. The tourers won the day!!! Anyway, the day started off a bit cold, but I had my heated grips, heated seat and windshield set a bit higher than normal, I was fine. When we left Engen I think we were 14. We met up with Chris, Marius and Cheesy @ the N2/Villiersdorp intersection. A few drops of rain otherwise a wonderful ride. Temperature mostly below 10. Luckily I had a long sleeve shirt on under my summer jacket. Excellent service, coffee waiting, and breakfast, R45 for cheese, tomato, mushroom and bacon omelette, plenty toasted home-made bread and farm butter, more coffee.
