A day on the track(s)

The weather was great. Biking is great. Conclusion: go biking. Therefore: Lance and I went biking. Simple equation.

Below follows a short, largely photo-focused report of a day-ride along the railway service roads between Cape Town and Darling. You can have a ball of a time just trying to “connect the dots” of railway service roads and other random back-roads.

Two girls’ first off-road ride since busting our feet

I broke my foot back in July as a result of a trip to Die Hel (full story: http://www.bmwmotorcycleclubcape.co.za/finishing-ride-come-die-hell-or-h...). Since I was out of action, I spent a lot of time living vicariously through others on both the Wild Dog forum and this forum. That’s when I noticed that another biker girl had a similar story to tell: Boskind27, who had torn her Achilles tendon in the Cederberg early September: http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=159266.0.

Darling Book Run, 4 May 2014 - Cancelled

We have been invited to take part in the Annual Book Run. A bit like the famous Toy Run, the book run aims to make a difference to under-resourced schools in the Darling area, and even Tanie Evita will be present.

Sunday 3 November Offroad ride

Not only did we have 3 bridges we also had 3 little pigs. Mmmm I wonder why they’re always in 3s?

There were 10 of us who set off from Melkbos on Sunday. The weather was good with very little wind. Heading out of Hopefield we had our first obstacle. A section of road was closed due to an upgrade and they were only allowing residents in. After a few minutes of grovelling they allowed us through. I don’t know what the fuss was about as the diverted section wasn’t that long at all.

Breakfast Ride to Darling this Sunday, yes, in the rain. Get wet with Warren Ellwood and John Geldenhuys.

Question: So Sunday has arrived and there is a breakfast ride! Happy days!! You jump out of bed, eager to get dressed and into the saddle. You open the curtains and look out side…..

BMWMCC Cape Breakfast Ride Sunday 2 October

Hi all, this is one of many dual rides that we hope to be doing in the future. As such we are catering for both Road and Off-Road.

So, where are we doing then? The town that can lay claim to being the home of the ambassadress of Bapetikosweti, yes folks, Darling. So let’s rev up those Brigs and Stratton motors, oops wrong motor, Boxers, Twins, In-Line, and come along for what promises to be a great ride and a serious breakfast from all accounts. Our hostess is eagerly awaiting our arrival; they enjoy having the bikers out their way!

Corne 650 GS Robin 250 Honda Chris 1200 Adventure Renette 1200 GS We met at the Swartland One Stop at 7h30 for 8. I am pleased to see Chris who I had met in the Sutherland Hotel last week , he was in Rony's group . The 4th rider is Corne's partner Taryn's father .I had had a bad night of food poisoning and excruciating stomach cramps, so was relieved to be able to make the trip today . As per Corne's advice I didn't even bother to put on my rain suit as we were going to be wet anyway . I did put on a rainproof top underneath my jacket, but took the padding out of my gear ,as I knew this trip was going to be hard work and we were going to get hot and sweaty .

The Clan of the Cave Bikers

This trip was originally organised to help Frances get some more kms under her belt. In the end she opted to do the Intro Course with Leon, which was also a good thing. '''Riders''' Charles Oertel 1150GS (Mr Badger) Peter O'Hanlon 650Dakar Andy Connell 1150GSA Anne Connell F650GS The plan was to travel dirt all the way to Charles' Fijnbosch Farme (we had not yet accomplished this since we tried 1½ years ago). We met at the Swartland Engen on the N7 7am (ish), had breakfast and then headed off in search of dirt - a mere 14kms away. Turning left, we followed the train track, snaking its way through the Swartland. From that moment, we never sat down again, as the road was full of potholes, corrugations, ruts...and MANY water crossings. I tell you, I finally learnt to stand crossing water, except in 1 or 2 which were deep and slithery and tried to suck you down or wash you away with some currents.
