The Dirt Guys Group. Some of the longer standing members (perhaps more often longer sitting down nowadays than longer standing members) of our illustrious motorcycle club may remember this name from years gone by.

It was the time when our club haven’t had a website, Facebook or any of the modern marvels of electronic communication. (We did have cellphones, though, but often we were too scared to use them as the technology was a bit, uhm, intimidating at the time.)

Meet at Harley-Davidson Tygervalley at 19:00 for registration and 20:00 departure. All streets will be well lit.

Let's Ride for Cancer Survivors, Caring, Creating Awareness and Celebrating Life!

On Saturday 20 August, BMW Clubs worldwide will be celebrating BMW's 100th anniversary.  Our club will be joining the celebration and we will be doing a mass breakfast ride to Dixies in Glencairn.  (Dixies is the restaurant where our club's founding members were rumoured to have met to chat about club matters.) 

This is an invitational ride and non club members are welcome to join us!

My first tour with the club (probably why I was volunteered as report writer!). The others were meeting for breakfast by the N2 and were due to pick me up in Hermanus at 08.45. They were 35mins late, without explanation, and it was only on the second evening when the straf-dops were being awarded that I discovered why; Tommie couldn’t find the N2! He joined us later in the day. Day 1 took us over the Tradouw Pass and through Meiringspoort to Prince Albert and the Swartberg Hotel. It was a beautiful first day, lekker sunshine and a welcoming swimming pool at the hotel.

On Monday the 1^st March, in the soft light of the rising sun, I was threading my way through the early morning peak traffic to meet another three riders who had been attracted to the same folly.  This was to ride through all of SA’s nine Provinces.

This report covers a five day ride in March 2013 from Cape Town to Baviaans over a variety of roads – myself on a R1200 GS and my son, Jethro, on a KLR 650.

Last minute work and preparations led to an afternoon start with a firm plan to end up in Calitzdorp for the night, but looser ideas on how to get there.
