Nothing is more stressful than arriving at an accident scene and not knowing what to do, in which order, who to call, how to make that call count, what to say.......... all while a person or persons are lying injured..
This is not a first aid course!
This is a workshop on what not to do and what to do should you be in a position described above.
This workshop will equip you with the knowledge and essential skills to enable you to function effectively on the scene and make a valuable contribution to the situation outcomes.
There is so much YOU can do to secure the scene,
secure the patients and NOT do injury-causing 'assistance' -
even if you have no first respondent training.
Applying First Aid is only a part (critical part too) to incident management. You have a very valuable role where seconds count.
With no first Aid knowledge you can influence the patients outcome in a very definite, positive way by following simple steps and doing the first things right first time.
Turn your empathy and good intentions into positive incident managing action that will help both the patient and the qualified respondents far more than you will ever know.
You do have a lot to do and you will require teamwork on a scene.
Learn how to go from nusiance to asset in a few common sense approach steps.
Power point presentation - which you can save to your flash drive or phone/device memory or get from the Donford Motorrad dealer manager at a later date.
Hand outs with some clear pointers and prompts to help you remember later.
Group limited to 40 people to retain the dynamic.
To book, send me a PM or mail me or post here.
Serial cancellers please only put your name down until much later to allow the people really interested to get on the list.

Pete
Graham wants to know if you running an NSRI rescue swimmers course !!!
Graham, yes I can run one. It starts with "Dope on a Rope" training where we hang you out of a helicopter - you can be the first dope :-)
is this stage I of the training?
where stage II is "dope without a rope"?
Thanks to you all for the great response.
Jaime at Donford has helped by taking over the admin from me because it takes up so much time from me and I'm travelling in Mozambique on assignment in the port of Nacala.
I have intermittent connectivity. So please help Jaime by sending her your real name, surname and cell number and email addy as she has requested.
We will have a follow up course at a later date only announced after this is over.
If you have committed, please stay committed as no shows get labelled as serial cancellers and will drop to bottom of the list of all BMWMCCC events in future.
It takes a helluva lot of time and effort to respond to each person and to set up these events. It is only fun and worthwhile for as long as the cooperation from you continues.
It's all voluntary form our part so please help keep our moermeters in the green.
We'll send an email to each person on the list on Saturday, you can then check details and if you are not getting this mail by Monday let Jaime know.
I'm looking forward to this because it is a course that has been very well received by the Harley club and it showed just how important a non-first aid FBOS course is to the community, bikers and motorists alike.
I know for sure you will be glad you made the effort to attend.
Looking forward to next Saturday
and with great appreciation to Donford Motorrad for the support and for facilitating this course by allowing use of their facility which disrupts their normal Saturday business.
Hi Andy
oops double booked - Nitro circus same day.
Sorry next time.
thanks
Don't scare me like that. Also booked for Nitro Circus. But I am pretty sure there will be enough time to get there from 12h00 to 19h00. Is there a matinee of the Nitro Circus?
I'm working there - so have to be there earlier than the paying folks.
Enjoy.
And no discounts for club members? Shame on you .
@Warren : since most of the club is probably going to be there, why not have the monthly club meeting while we are at it?
If you did not get an email from in the last few hours it will because you did not give me or Jaime your email address. Or it was copied incorrectly.
See you all on Saturday
to Andy and Pete for sharing their wealth of knowledge and experience during the workshop today.
Thanks also to Donford for the use of their premises and refreshments and Jaime for keeping track of everyone.
Thanks to Trevor and the guys from LibraVision for giving up their Saturday morning to film content for a FBOS video.
It's very useful (and reassuring) to know that one can make a positive contribution at an accident scene without necessarily having (or applying) any 1st aid knowledge.
Someone asked about emegency numbers. Here are a few:
Flying Squad 10111
Ambulance (provincial EMS) 10177
Telkom Emergency 1022
Netcare 082911
ER 24 084124
Cell emergency 112
Poison Centre 0219316129
A big thank you also from my side. Not only did I find the presentation extremely valuable, but I enjoyed being amongst fellow riders who share the same (BMW) values of preparedness and concern for other riders.
Thank you guys for preparing and presenting the workshop and to Donford for hosting the event.
Thanks Andy and Pete for a most interesting and empowering presentation. Well done! To the hosts and all hands and sponsors behind the scene, thanks to your contribution into making this possible. Much appreciated. To all other attendees and presenters, my humble apologies for running late this morning. Hope I did not cause too much disruption to the course or recordings. Was nice bumping into some familiar faces too. Good seeing you folks. Ride save!
I would like to thank Andy and Pete for making time in their busy schedules to take the time to enrich the members of the club with their knowlidge. It's sessions like these that makes us a better and more aware motorcyclists. Today was a good and informative session. We appriciate all the time and effort that you guys put in to make the club a better and safer place.
Also thanks to Donforts for making their facilities available to us.
Thanks to Andy and Pete for the effort of the session today, I have taken a huge amount of advice away from this, thanks to donford for their venue,
the effort is greatly appreciated!

I use Evernote.com for to-do lists and checklists. It allows you to create and manage lists with checkboxes and notes on a PC or your smartphone, and it syncs between them.
I have entered the FBOS checklist we got printouts of into my Evernote account, so that it will end up on my cell phone for easy access in a crisis. You can access the list at this link. The account on Evernote.com is free, and so is the app for your smartphone.
I use Evernote to keep and manage my trip packing lists - very useful to be able to tick off things on your phone, and add things to the list on your PC at work when you think of them.

Thanks Charles, I've been using Evernote for years so this is really useful.
Thanks to Andy, Pete, Donford and all others involved in putting the FBOS workshop together.
It was absolutely brilliant and in my view essential for all riders. There was no waffle - each and every word was of vital importance. I have been empowered by attending the workshop but I hope that I will never need to use ithe information learned.
Thanks for the Evernote link Charles. I didn't get a printout so this is most useful.
Pete, at the workshop you mentioned that you had waterproof paper and pencil. Where can I get these?

Geoff, I got mine here:
https://www.luckies.co.uk/unusual-gifts-for-men/waterproof-notebook-for-...
but you'll need a UK contact as they don't ship to South Africa.
I see there is a waterproof notebook available at

Thanks Pete. The Dragon is coming to visit next month so I will ask her to bring a couple with her.
