Where to find Heidi's? Heidenau 90/90/21 + 150/80/17

In October '08, I ordered a set of Heidi's from Bikegear in P.E. for my Dakar, to give me PLENTY of time before Klipbokkop training (early Feb) and NC '09, as well as Wild Coast ride. Bikegear then went and sold the tires I ordered, despite a written order! Harald rang this morning to apologise, admitting fault BUT they will not have tires in time... Can any forum members assit me with: 1.where else to try for Heidi's (they were competitively priced, and I'm on a budget) or 2. recommend a similar tire (front and rear, Dakar) or 3. do any forum members have a second hand tire(s) with an agressive tread pattern for sale that would fit my Dakar? I'm currently using TrailWings, but need more off-road oriented tires. thanks

I ordered Heidenau's yesterday from Harold (Bike gear)... Back order expected end of February. ( I order well in advance and keep the tyres at home ;-) ) The Michelin Sirac is a good rear tyre... You can fit a set of Maxxis 6006 (very cheap) but it's also a very soft tyre. Don't last that long. PS. I think Heidenau K60 rear tyre size is 130-80/17 and not 150-80/17 ? I can vouch for the Maxxis on the back - very cost effective. I didn't find them that soft. Got Brenda Buttercup's from Atlantic Motorrad. As for the front - ask Ruan if he doesn't perhaps have some used tyre lying around. Many people change both tyres and there is still some life left on the front. I'm enjoying my Maxxis. Great on dirt. Okay-ish on tar. However very scary on wet surfaces. Not good at all.
There are so many problems in this world. Luckily there's a wristband available for almost all of them.

I run Maxxis intermediates on my 1200 - did kbk in the wet last year - slippery clay surfaces in the quarries - etc etc and the bike handled very well - in fact i am now on my second set. I want to put Knbblies on for Wild coast - but that is for the terrain there. Other than that the Maxxis are great.

Metzelers from TracMac - a little pricey, but come highly recommended. Pete da Mann

What Metzeler, Karoo? They are very pricey! I wish I could afford them... they do look good... the Tourance is no good for off road riding IMHO. Regards, Corné

Yep Karoo 2, and you're right, the Tourance won't be suitable. Pete da Mann

I've got a Karoo II on my front and don't like it. Noisy, soft and I have had many front-end washouts with it. It could just be me, but it really seems as though my front has gotten worse since I replaced the TKC80 with the Karoo. Website Administrator [http://honeybadger.net Honey Badger IT Services]

Whew - where to start! thanks all for some great advice for my predicament: Brendan - thanks for the offer - see you tonight at the meeting; Freak - those prices from Cecil Penny sound sweet - will call them now Charles - thanks for feedback on Karoo II's - not sure if tires from Brendan are same as you've mentioned? Francois - I rang Chris Louw - he does has front Heidi (140's) avail. and advises that 150's are just too wide for the Dakar... Cloud - thanks for the heads-up on WET conditions - will take extra care... ALL - m-u-c-h appreciated - see you later~! http://www.themanorcottage.co.za

Hi ChrisL Yes, thanks; Brendan helped me with some Metzler Karoo's - the front of which is fine, but the back is pretty much finished, so I will now invest in a new back tire, prbably a Maxxis 6006... http://www.themanorcottage.co.za

Bikegear did give me great service the 1st time I used them - I ordered a centre-stand for the Dakar late last year, and it arrived just 24 hours later, brilliant service! Just to give them a pat on the back, and balance out my comment on them getting my tire order messed up - they gave me great service before! http://www.themanorcottage.co.za

Donford had Heidi's for the 1200. Try them, maybe they have stock for the Dakar as well.
