Padlangs, I have a spare front tyre from my V-Strom, which you are welcome to ride until treadless, if you wish. I suggest you start practising standing up, now already, even in traffic; keeping your bum just out of the saddle will also work. Tyre pressures as per Geelkameel; good thing you won the Airman. Remember to re-inflate when back on tar.

Thanks Niel and Danie. One of the guys that went to the GS challenge, had knobblies fitted - he gave me his trailwing tires. Atlantic motorad will fit it today. I tested the Airman during the weekend. Stunning piece of engineering. Fortunately, the power socket on the 1100RT can power these pumps, unlike the new bikes. As for standing up, did you not see on the Boulder Bush Pub run how I practiced standing up in the slower sections? Cheezy, are you joining us for this over night run, or are you still recovering from the GS Challenge?

Sorry for the false hope, Cheezy - and the heart attack Brahman. Stopping on the gras at the Toy run is the ONLY off-road my RT does. :) Yes, I am going with the stof-eters thies weekend, but with my bakkie - carting the tents, etc. Those going on the trip, if you can get your gear to Johann by Friday afternoon, I will transport it in my bakkie. No need for heavy panniers. And YES, this is true - you can check with Johann. See you all on Saterday morning. I am looking forward to "Malgas se pont", almost 20 years since I last used it.

UNFORGETABLE TRIP TO WARMWATERBERG!!!! Danie is going to write up a report. The J-man (JR rossouw)has really come up trumps on this trip. At a fraction of the cost of a club off-road trip, we had two medics, good back up vehicle crews and lots of good humour. We only used the good humour though, not the spares or quacks. Once again made un-forgettable by the choice of route, good company, Nico n Tanya's now famous braai and support roles and people who don't skrik for rain, rough terrain or pain. .... and not snow either! Thanks J-man for a really enjoyable trip filled with absolute wall-to-wall enjoyment. Sorry I baled in the night but in the event I'm glad I did as my Godson is worth giving up a bike ride for. I'm just so glad I came for day 1. If we have more than 11 on the next trip we need to re-think the riding group so that we can stick to the routes and timing.. Andyman Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic on the 1150GSA.

Yes, truly an unforgettable event. Just a pity Danie is out of town for the week - it is going to be a looong wait for the report. :( You also make mention of the cost (or should I rather say lack of it) of the trip. I have no idea how they could put this whole trip together for only R150 per person. Anybody that say they went hungry or thirsty was surely not on the Warmwaterberg trip with Johann and family. As for the size of the group. Yes, it must surely be much easier to 10 bikes together. If two rules were adhered to, we would have arrived probably an hour earlier. 1) Keep track of the person behind you. If you cant see him/her turn back. 2) At each turning, wait for the next person before you move on. These sound so easy, and if everybody stuck to it, the group would never have split up. A possible suggestion - for such a big group, the last bakkie should never go past a bike. Then everybody will always know when the last vehicle has reached the turn. The road works outside Elim also threw a spanner in the works. But there is no way of planning around such things - just keep the group together. Hey, back to the good stuff. This was a stunning trip!! Bakgat people!! THANKS to one an all, especially Andries and his 4x4.

Yes, I agree. I'm still wondering how to clean off all the mud - it's EVERYWHERE! Thanks JR for all the organisation. Can't wait for Danie's report and everyone's pics...

I have suggested to Dave that Atlantic Motorrad start a vale-service. Maybe all those that want to make use of such a service should "approach" him. If enough people ask they might just start such a service.

Alles in ag geneem - hoop ek ons maak gou wéér so!

For the record. The cost per head covered all my expenses around the catering. I could even use the R70 odd change to top up the food donation. The organising and catering is done for the love of it and not with the aim to make any profit. Tanya

On auction .... When visiting the Mispah School for children with learning disabilities in Elim this weekend, I once again realised how fortunate we are to have family and friends that care for us. The stars in the children’s eyes and their sunshine smiles as we entered the room, brought a tear to my eye (or should I say a shower of rain). I am sure that the visit to this very needy community, touched all of us in different ways – especially when they greeted us with a very appropriate welcome song. A big thank you to all of you who unselfishly contributed towards the generous food donation for the school and handing out of the goodies. Johan Burger, the owner of Burger Furnishers in Bellville accompanied us on the trip and opened his heart (and his wallet) to the Mispah School by donating TV’s for the hostel. We all witnessed and heard of the circumstances under which these children are raised. For this reason, I am putting Johann’s (JR’s) torn and tattered rain suit (after that gracious mud slide) on auction this week. The suit will unfortunately not go to the highest bidder. The funds raised will be used to purchase a DVD player/video machine for the Mispah school in Elim. Depending on the amount we are able to raise, I would like to buy an educational video / DVD for the children. The children sang the well-known song “You raise me up” with the words still echoing in my mind … You raise me up so I can stand on mountains You raise me up to walk on stormy seas I am strong when I am on your shoulders You raise me up to more than I can be. Let’s make this song a reality in their lives. Let’s lift their spirits and help them to be the best they can be. Your voluntary bids can be transferred into my bank account. Please send me an SMS to confirm your deposit. I will declare the takings early next week. A complete statement of the individual donations will be made available on request. My banking details are as follow : Standard Bank Tyger Manor Branch Cheque Account Account no : 270763635 Cellphone number for confirmation of payment via SMS : 082 332 4635 “In order to make a difference, all you need to do is start.” Tanya

I must agree with all the comments, a very well organised trip and as an "outsider" was welcomed by the openess of the group. This was a very, very big step up from the from the usual bully beef style of catering Im used to, a big thank you to all. Must admit waking up on Monday with a smile recollecting the one comment whilst checking out "Mildred" the 25 year old "Dis seker Hitlers se motorbike - ek check net vir die koel merke" Will do the FAQ thing and figure the picture posting thing.
