Just a quick question to all BMW riders and the club = do we support the annual Toy Run as a BMW family? This year is the 25-th year of the Toy Run and it is, as every year, going to be even bigger. Date is Sunday 25 November 2007 and starts from different venues all over South Africa. Cape Town as well (see www.imoc.co.za) The wife and I have done a number of Toy Runs in the past and, apart from the good cause, just loves the "vibe" of the day. The ride is short and slow, but the day has a special feel to it. We'll surely be there again. Will be nice to ride in an all BMW group...

Hi Ben YES, the club does support this worthy cause. The last two years we have gathered at Ratanga. Dave arranges a number of "stickers", we then drive into the venue and park inside. Closer to the time, there will be much more info about the toyrun on this forum. :)

I will be attending annual TOY RUN Cocktail Evening to-night at the Letterstedt Pub in Newlands. I will have more information following this meeting which I will give to all our members at the monthly meeting on Tuesday night. I will also arrange stickers for all BMW motorcycles (non members as well)to get free entry into the grounds. Dave

The Toy Run is quite an experience! Bit crowded for many people, but one of those events that one needs to experience at least once. By the way, I notice it is the same day as the Dixies run... See the link to the Forum Toy Run 2006 thread at: http://www.bmwmotorcycleclubcape.co.za/forum/Yabb2/YaBB.cgi?num=1163051934 2006 Ratanga start2006 Ratanga start The most fascinating aspect to me is the variety of colours (and identities) of the bikers. Dankie Danie. Ek het vir Dave laat weet van die Dixie run wat op dieselfde dag as die Toyrun is. Hy sal dit skuif en waarskynlik op die volgende vergadering vir ons die nuwe datum gee. For those that wnat to do the Toyrun, but does not like the slooooow procession - we have a "back-up" plan. The details will be made public on the week of the Toyrun.

BMW Club - BMW Club (the Harley club aka the Hardley Dangerous Club - dare I mention that!) arranges a sectioned off area specially for their members inside the venue, this offers security for the bikes - it is a great advantage and they also have their own braai and refreshments - all money collected going to the kids charity - I think that we should do the same ....

Morning all, Is the Bmw forum/club going to have their own meeting place for the interested bikers to meet? Thanks,

The BMW club gathers at the Ratanga parking lot. Last year we gathered to the "back-right" of the lot. This and other facts will be confirmed on the week of the ride on this thread.

A-ha. TOYRUN 2007: The Toyrun consists of 3 "phases". 1) Gathering at Ratanga. It is an awsome experience to see 3 000 + bikes in a single parking lot. Inevitably someone can not resist the urge to "burn out" his back tire. Some other souls also attempt to "wheelie" - some less succesfully than others. Ratanga and Ottery groups converge on the N2Ratanga and Ottery groups converge on the N2 2) At 11:00 the group starts in a procession towards Maynardville. This is also fun - until this group meets up with the group from Ottery on the N2. :( Suddenly the procession grinds to a halt, the next 30 minutes is done at about 5 km/h. My bike loves looong rides - but these slow rides are absolutely murder on a bike. Last year MANY bikes over heated. :( Tooooooooo many bikes on one piece of tar.Tooooooooo many bikes on one piece of tar. 3) At Maynardville you add your toys at the trailors. Now you can support the beer tent, hamburger stands, etc. etc. THIS is why we go the TOYRUN.THIS is why we go the TOYRUN. I spoke to Dave and got the go-ahead to arrange an alternative option. Those that are interested can meet at Engen Plattekloof. We will leave at 10:40 and drive straight through to Maynardville. This way we avoid damaging our bikes in the slooow procession. At Maynardville we can then whatch the group arrive. Would those that are interested in joining the "Engen group" please respond here. Once I have some idea of the numbers I can get some entry tickets for Maynaderville from Dave. With these tickets we ride into the "main" area at Maynardville. Without these, you have to park in the main parking area with about 6 000 other bikes - you easily get parked in here. I am fully aware that many wants to go to Ratanga to be part of the "gathering". Yes,it is an experience not to be missed. I am just trying to avoid damaging my bike in the slow procession. Either way - it is a function that you do NOT want to mis.

Padlangs do you sugest going to ratanga first then on to engin to be there by 10:40

Flipper, if we you go to Ratanga it is very difficult to get out before the starting time. About 30 minutes before the starting time the exit is closed of and the members of the Italian Motorcycle club get the starting "grid" lined up. I am going straight to Engen, probably at 10:15. Note on "gifts". It is natural to want to bring a "teddy bear". These gifts are taken to various "homes" for orphans etc. Male and female kids of ALL ages are in these homes - please think wider than just a teddy.

Ek gaan Ratanga toe. 2006 Ratanga start2006 Ratanga start Twee punte: a) Neem 'n skoolkind as pillion saam. Sien julle daar!

By Thursday I will count the number of "Engen" responses, and get that number of tickets from Dave - ONLY 2 at this stage. See you ALL at Maynardville. :) BikerBen, I commute everyday in the traffic of the N1. The RT hates to go slower than 40 km/h - murder on my left hand and the clutch. Last year I saw about 20 + bikes overheat and spit out their coolants. Don't be fooled by the fact that the boxer don't have a radiator - HOT is HOT. Those that do go to Ratanga, try to start as early as possible (at the front). In my opinion you will not see anything at Ratanga that you wont see much more of at Mynardville. Granted, there is something to be said for the "spirit" at Ratanga.

Reg-so Basset. At this stage there will be four bikes at Engen - thus I will be asking Dave for four tickets on Thursday, unless more people respond before 12:00 on Thursday. See you at Engen.

Final confirmation: There will be almost 10 bikes departing from Engen Plattekloof at 10:40 towards Maynardville for the Toyrun. Anybody eager to avoid the mayhem of 7000 bikes - you are welcome to join us at Engen. SAFE and enjoyable ride to one-and-all.

Once again I must congratulate Dave and Di for a well organised event. I really enjoyed the Toy Run. Also thanks to Padlangs for organising the meeting at Plattekloof, it worked out perfectly.
