Spring Beginners off tar ride into the Overberg - GREYTON Sunday 31 August

Another enjoyable  club off-tar ride.

This is a regular event. Doing it the second time gives you a definite reference on how you have developed. It just seams easier and easier.

If this is your first day ride off tar then its an excellent ride to get kilometres unfder the belt.

The best way of riding well off-ar is to follow the tracks of others and learn from them in this safe, slow paced ride through the beadbin of the Overberg.

This ride is suited to riders new to gravel roads and is pillion friendly.

This is a beginners ride, we will not ride fast.

Total distance is 300 kilometers 50% on gravel.

Back home at 16H30.

Fuel & lunch for own account at Searle's in Greyton.

COST IS R40.oo TO COVER THE BACK UP VEHICLE.  payment will be called for  to hit the club account max 2 days before the event. riders will get an email wiht more details and the ride briefing notes.

R50.oo fee for non club members. (club dues not paid or not registered).

Book with Annamarie@bmwmccc.org.za

DATE : Sunday 31 August 2014

MIKE VOGES WILL FOLLOW IN THE BACK-UP VEHICLE AND CLUB TRAILER.

Meet     :  08H00 N2 outbound just after Somerset West, at the BP garage on your left. This allows us to avoid snarling up at the zillion traffic lights beofre the start point

You can breakfast at the BP wild Bean as long as you are in riding trim by 08H20.

At 08H20, riders briefing, route plan and departure at 08H40.

We ride N2 up Sir Lowry’s pass bypassing  Grabouw & Elgin.

Over the Houwhoek Pass through Bot Rivier and then hook right through Caledon.

All 75km on tar.

Now we descend into the Hemel en Aarde Vallei turning left onto the gravel- Terslaarsdal road.

Here we adjust tyre pressure and suspension for gravel and an off-road briefing

We will split into groups of 10 bikes to keep us manageable,

It’s a magnificent road and a very beautiful ride which pillions will just love as they are feasted to brilliant yellows, blues and greens of the bread-bin of the Southern Cape. PILLIONS TO PLEASE USE CAMERAS!!!

After snaking up to the N2 we cross and head up to lunch stop-Greyton.

After a relaxed lunch we ride out West on tar to Genadendal, then gravel road.

6km further we turn right at Middelplaas on good gravel, passed Helderstroom prison at Sunnyside, tar over Eselsjag pass and L to gravel and the Draaiberg road to Botriver via Van der Stel pass.

Top up, say goodbyes in Botriver and then run for home.

Plenty stops to adjust gear or bikes as needed to make your ride more comfortable and photograph the awesome scenery.

The only sporting event you will miss is the Silverstone Moto GP.

Thank to you all, please send a mail with details to Annamarie@bmwmccc.org.za.

There is plenty of space.

However, bookings will close finally 3 days before the event in order to secure catering.

Prudence prescribes that as this is a beginners ride we do include the back up vehicle with the trailer.

There will be a cost. Budget  R40 for the back up and payment will be by EFT, details to follow.

Thank you to all ride leaders, sweepers and back up crew who helped make this ride a success.

Thank you especially to the 24riders who joined for this ride and the seven pillions,

salute to you all.

we had wonderful weather, wonderful roads and great people.

Because it was such a good day out, Searles were a bit inundated and one thing you need to learn on no ride....... Book your food first then go Hannes Hannes and kier.

Those that dilly dallied around their bikes or sat and chatted first learnt this valuable lesson in real time.

The ride back was time wise longer, but route wise shorter.

The riviersonderend river has, between wEdnesdays recycle ride and Saturday back up from the dam overflow to the extent that what was a gentle low water crossing is now a still pond and is by now probably drained away.

But Saturday it was not beginner stuff.

We turned back and went back by a shortened route.

Sorry you all missed the fantastic orchards in full blossom down the Bot River valley....

No body dropped a bike or kit and no animals were in anyway hurt during this ride.

What can I say?  It was fantastic! We haven't been on the bike for some time, so it was really great to get out again.  The weather was fantastic, the scenary was awesome, the people were fun and a lot of laughing and learning took place at the water crossing.  Well done to young Neil who went all the way through and then came all the way back again.  Good to catch up with some old friends and to make new ones.  Thanks to Andy, Pete, Cecil and Neels for your able leadership and to Mike for the back-up.  The effort that you guys put in so that the rest of us can have some relaxed fun is very much appreciated.

can't decide if it was the ride that I enjoyed more or the fabulous company.. The entire day was LEKKER.
Thanks to the organizers, those who were there yesterday and to those behind the scenes doing the admin. Pete and Oom Neels that drowned their bikes (It just shows that even the 'experienced' riders can get it wrong) so I didn't feel that bad when Pete had to jump-start by bike after I had left my Ignition onEmbarassed

To the gentleman riding the Fantastic 80gs. You took a pic of me riding through the water..can you send it to me please.(was my first water crossing)
