I have been asked quite a bit about this ride in the last two weeks. I found a hole in my schedule so.....

BMWMCC – morning garvel breakfast outride  max 14 bikes

Sunday 7th August : morning off tar ride Durbanville to Paarl

Start      : 08H00 Plattekloof start point at Engen.

Long term met is forecast to be sunny and clear.

With winter nearly over, it’s time to get back into off-tar riding.

This is a pillion friendly ride at a slow pace.

And yes you read right, on your very doorstep, just a few minutes from home we are blessed with exquisite gravel roads and rides through farmyards. All between Durbanville and Paarl.

The idea is to give riders new to off-tar an opportunity to get some kilos under the belt in a controlled environment with some off tar riding briefing.

Gain confidence riding in a slow group on less travelled gravel roads.

Starting at Plattekloof Engen (Normal start point), crossing to Kontermans kloof in the Durbanville Hills, round to the Spes Bona road, on gravel to the airfield at Fesantekraal.

Then 9 kilos  tar towards Agter Paarl.

Rest stops in between.

Gravel to Windmeul, up on the Jan Phillips drive on Paarl mountain and down onto main road.

Then we take a RH turn on main road and ehad to Butterfly world for brunch.

Thereafter free to ride off on your own

You ride at your pace and within your comfort zone

Seasoned off-tar riders will help you with tips and at any part you find too challenging.

This mix of gravel with tar stretches in between is excellent for gaining off-tar experience and confidence.

No back up vehicle,

No cost.

Brunch at Butterfly World for your account.

Technical and medical assistance available from our seasoned off tar team.

The list is open now, max 14 bikes   - online booking form

I see there is a running event on/around Paarl reserve on Sunday.

Maybe some roads blocked on the mountain.

But Jan Phillips drive seems to be not affected.

Also keep in mind that it is "Interskole" this weekend Paarl. So it might be very busy.

This is what happens when one has a busy week and you don't check the forum. I miss out on a ride. Feeling sad.

Lovely day, lovely ride!

Well they say if you need a break, then create some good company and go do something together.

Fun shared is fun doubled.

Thanks Tarryn for all the help finding a venue.

Thanks to the 8 other bikes and well done to the two pillions who came out in chilly weather and enjoyed a seriously enjoyable ride together in the Boland.

Relaxed, together and wonderful roads, right in our back yard.

Butterfly world as a venue is really good. Great parking, reasonably secure, Good value for money and good friendly service,

They handle separate billing easily and were on top of their game.

Gave a good review on Tripadvisor

Kelnerin was gou daar om bestellings te neem.

Koffie was lekker.

Atmosfeer is lekker.

What a great morning out on the bikes, lovely routes, fantastic weather, delicious food, awesome company and that all right in our very own backyard!

Thank you Andy for all the arrangements and to the other guys and gals who joined and made it so enjoyable!

Great ride report Andy, the highlight for me was definitely seeing the mama sheep and her two (VERY) newly borns, with the steam still rising from their warm little minute old bodies heart.

Well done to ALL the bikers who managed the gravel roads and especially well done to the pillions ... it's never easy being back there. One of the ladies already said she wants her own bike. I will not mention any names lol.

Just do it!!!

Till next time ...

Must agree was a brilliant ride and really enjoyable. Thank you to Andy and Tarryn, my attitude towards gravel has changed and I can't wait for the next ride.

It takes more love to share the saddle than it does to share the bed.
