Hi guys. I have a R1100S, 2000 model with 120 000 k's on the clock that I use mainly to work and back. My speedo needle started twitching while at speed and then went to zero. The odometer is also not working now. Any suggestions on where to start looking

Any ideas on where the speed sender unit is situated. My Clymer workshop manual does not say.

Any help wil be appreciated. Thanx.

Most likely your speedo cable.  You caan have it replaced for a few hundred bucks.  Just disconnect the cable from the front wheel and see whether you can turn the thing inside it.  Disconnect from the speedo and check whether twisting the speedo itself moves the needle or not.  Etc.

Or take it to Kingtek or the dealer to have a look if you are not up to it.

To me it sounds like the root cause is excessive friction in the drive cable or in the input bearing of the odo instrument cluster. This usually leads to damage to the drive unit at the front wheel.

Check all components (odo cluster, cable and drive unit) because you have to repair the root cause in order to prevent recurring damage.

Sorry guys, it took so long for me to reply. I've been able to fix the problem.

The R1100S has no speedo cable. It has a Speedo pickup at the rear wheel. I traced the cable to the front and found a broken wire under the seat  next to a plug where the cable goes into the harness. I soldered it and my bee-em is as right as rain again.
