Middelpos 10 & 11 Aug - Wie ry saam? Seen some nice pics of bike trips when I googled middelpos. We've done all those routes with the kids in the Landy before. We also towed two bikes up on trailers that way enroute to Jozi one Christmas. The Ganaka pass is tremendous- dry walling and spectaculkar views. Really enjoyed that way. See you Friday. So who is all going by the way Arra, Danie Malan. Andy me Charles turtle Brendan. ...... ...who else Andyman Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic on the 1150GSA.

Ok, so I decide on the eve of the trip that perhaps it would be useful to know where '''Middelpos''' is. So I Google for it, and discover that this thread from our website is right there on the first page ranked 5th for the word ''Middelpos''. Google results for MiddelposGoogle results for Middelpos This is great news for me as a webmaster - it means the site is generating content in an optimal structure to do well on the search engines. For you guys using the site, it means that you should watch what you say, because the world is watching ;-) Website Administrator

Trip reports to follow later in the week. My ADSL is down (and I hear that Andy's is also) and who knows how long it will take telkom to fix. (This is on dialup via cellphone...) I have a photo of the setup, but clearly was not able to take a picture while we were busy ;-) Look for it in the trip report coming up. There were no other witnesses 'cos the rest of the group had taken off and left us behind. Website Administrator

Ja, thanks Johan - the ride was so fantastic that I am still on a pluck! hd - if you click the pictures they open up full-size in a new window. This allows the page to open quickly (in spite of Telkom), and lets only people that want to see the bigger picture wait for it to download. You'll also notice that I centered the pics in your post - looks a bit nicer. The website has more in common with Macs than Windows, being run on Ubuntu Linux... Kind regards Charles Website Administrator

A GATE TOO FAR: MIDDLEPOS THE BEST Thanks J-man for the really lekker trip, and a BIG thank you to Nico, Tanya and the kids. It took me 2 hours to clean my bike, and even now still some watery mud smears show up. My gear and helmut took a lot longer to clean. But hell guys, what a great ride with a great group. I'll upload photos this evening. I can still feel the music. Andyman Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic on the 1150GSA.

BRENDA TOWING ANDYMAN'S 1150GSA Jaco, When you stop to help another rider remember to switch coff the ignition!! I kicked out my side stand, killing the motor. I was stopping on the uphill, 15 metres after the river crossing. Well, spots n heaters drained the battery in the 15 mintues it took to stand and watch others wade in and pick up the bikes. As the others pulled off I discovered my dead battery. Luckily Brenda was nearby and it was a no-brainer trying to push start a 259kg loaded 1150GSA uphill. I carry recovery straps, so Charles looped one eye over his RHS footpeg and I looped the other eye over my LHS peg. He towed me up the hill and then on top I let the clutch out in 3rd gear.. She started. and I kicked the strap off my peg easily. It was a doddle really. Andyman Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic on the 1150GSA.

1150 GS DEFINITELY RULES. We had 4 -1150GS bikes on this trip, 3 -1200's and 3 -650's. As we encountered almost every type of terain and condition mommy nature had on her menu, it was a real 1150GS riders dream trip. No break-downs, punctures or injuries, just how a good trip should be. Andyman Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic on the 1150GSA.

Well, you remembered the passes, but couldn't remember the bikes... There were only two 650s there - Brenda and Geoffrey's bike with the modified pipes. Though you can be forgiven for being confused - Brenda is larger than life and she did save your 1150 GSA's bacon ;-) Dave Higgs was saying that with the computerized bikes it is quite hard to bump-start them because you need enough power to power up the computer for it to tell the bike to start. That may be why we only got your bike going once we were riding steadily at a pace. regards Charles

Derricks Africa Twin!! Aww Charles don get teknical. Derrick's Africa Twin is a 750 but for this purpose 650 does fine. I kept in the braveheart category- with the gutsy 650's. Yes, Brenda saved my arse, God bless her gutsy performance! I won't mention you only remembered I carry recovery straps after I desparately tried to push the blessed bike backwards uphill!!!!! What sparked your memory? -Was it my gasping breath, my mouth flapping like a guppy or the viens on my face looking like a tracks4africa route map? Or just my tears of frustration? Andyman Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic on the 1150GSA.

Oops - my bad. I really thought of it as one of the ''bigger'' bikes.

:) It was my own heart and lungs beating their way out of my ribcage... I actually thought of towing you out right in the beginning, but was willing to give a bump-start a try because when you suggested it you looked like the Camel man. ;-) Website Administrator

Remember the picture that MotorRad published in their issue just after the NelsonsCreek meeting? The picture of bikes going through that VERY slippery mudpatch on the Green Route near Gouda? Notable is the fact that the bike in the foreground on that picture was the only non-BMW bike at the meeting - (who was the person that chose THAT picture!!!) Anyway, this is the same Africa Twin of Derrick. Dit was 'n great trippie!
