Country Trax Sand Riding course at Klipbokkop

After Bob Goode twisted my arm sufficiently, I signed up to attend the Country Trax three-day sand course at Klipbokkop.

And so, on Friday past, we found ourselves setting out into the cold morning on ourway to Klipbokkop via Grabouw and Villiersdorp. According to the weather forecast, snow had fallen on the high-lying moutnains and showers were expected.

Country Trax Sand Riding Course

In the Sand Riding Course you learn to conquer the ‘sand monster’.  This course, which is exclusive to Country Trax Western Cape, provides you with the skills to overcome all your fears of riding in sand.  As the course leans strongly on the principles taught at the Weekend Off-road courses, prior attendance at this course is a prerequisite for attendance at the Sand Riding Course.  After this three day course, you will, amongs other things, be able to ride in thick sand (fast and slow), reduce your speed and brake in sand, corner at speed and make u-turns in sand, an

The last Country Trax Klipbokkop training weekend of the year took place on the weekend of 13-15 November, with quite a few BMWWC members participating. The 20 participants were split into three groups: Leon and JP took the men, while Lourens took the group of 9 girls. Mr. Badger does the Advanced Offroad Course

May 2008 saw the first [http://www.countrytrax.co.za Country Trax Advanced Offroad BMW Rider Training] in the Western Cape - held at Klipbokkop. I was lucky enough to be a part of it, by grace of my wife and on the insistence of Mr. Badger, my 1150GS (who doesn't know what's good for him). We arrive at Klipbokkop on Thursday evening. Jan and Gerhard (the advanced course instructors) are down from Mpumalanga to run this inaugural training, and they introduce themselves to each new arrival. Rumours abound that the course will start with a night ride, and this is fuelled by Jan's instructions for us to report for supper in full kit. The air is somewhat apprehensive as we remove screens and mirrors in preparation for the inevitable learning experiences and ''sidestand issues''.

Mr. Badger does Klipbokkop

I had wanted to enrol myself and Julie for the ''Coast to Karoo'' trip, but Julie forbad it. So, in a fit of pique I used the money to enrol myself and Mr. Badger on the [http://www.countrytrax.co.za/courses.weekend.php Klipbokkop Intermediate Off-road training], run by [http://www.countrytrax.co.za/ Country Trax]. My rationale was that the money spent would reduce the costs of repairs to Mr. Badger caused by lack of skill. ===Preparation=== I have done the ''Introduction to Off-road'' course held at Zevenwacht (now done at Nelson's Creek). That course was an eye-opener: it is physically quite demanding to learn how to handle a large bike, and by the end of the day I was exhausted (and the next day I was stiff and sore). So, to ensure I was fit enough to enjoy all 3 days of Klipbokkop, I decided to get fit:
