On Friday 24 Feb 2012 at around 16:00 a Royal Navy frigate HMS Montrose will sail into Hout Bay.

The gunners of the Hout Bay & Llandudno Heritage Trust will salute the frigate with a rolling broadside from their six 18 pounder muzzle-loading cannon at East Fort. HMS Montrose will respond with a two-gun salute.

They suggest coming down around or shortly after 15h00 to inspect the site and the guns. 

The East Fort site is on Chapman’s Peak Drive, about a kilometre from the beach at Hout Bay and a few hundred metres before (outside) the tollgate.  About 300m after the last houses on the way up you will see a parking area on the right - park there.   About 20m uphill from the parking area is a gravel path, which is usually closed by a boom, going down towards the sea.  The fort is about 150m down that path.
