Either way we going to get wet. Yes!!!!!!!!! WET!!!!!! Water crossings in the rainy seasonsWater crossings in the rainy seasons Pack snorkels and costumes....... Russ the radios as super cool, all programmed and ready and I cannot wait for the DVD that will follow. Some interresting facts: Rony ordered the meat: 7kg Fillet, 14kg Rump, 14kg Wors and some more Lamb chops - SO GO HUNGRY !!!! There is something like 42 bottles of wine going with us, some as prizes and some for use. There will be a "floating trophy"... There is 4 MAD MEN with NON-STOP radio contact (just imagine the chirps) Russ Rathbone, DanielSan, Malletjie and me.... There I was all jealous, thinking it's not fair that you guys are going on the trip and have something to look forward to. Then I realised: '''it's just 3 more sleeps until Easter Friday!!!'''. Yay! I will not need to come in to work and will be able to stay at home and work. Yippee! :-( Website Administrator [http://honeybadger.net Honey Badger IT Services]

Wagtyd by stoppe meer as 1 uur in totaal normaalweg. 'n beter roete behoort oor Robertson, Bonnievale,Stormsrivier te wees om dan aan te sluit by N2 (of selfs later by Swellenbam) Geniet dit!

We are indeed all back safe and sound, the main group hit the tollgates at Du Toits kloof tunnel at 19h30. The Easter weekend traffic tried to spoil our return to the cape but lane splitting and hazards flashing solved most of that problem. Reflecting on the trip would take pages but to summarise I can only say, you guys where the greatest, 19 people 14 bikes, no mishaps and at times bordering on extreme riding. I am sure the leisurely trip up the mountain Sunday morning will remain in many of us memory for a long time to come. We even managed to do our “Moon ride” Saturday evening, kudos and all! Again thanks to all the helping hands for making this a success. Do it today, maybe there is no tomorrow! Rony Desodt

I have some helmet camera footage of our easy morning mountain ride. I'll have to edit the sound though - I've discovered that my language when speaking to myself is not suitable for family listening! Must have been the fresh air that affected me. :-) Daniel, I'll get the memory stick to you. ''If you can dream it you can do it!''

Excellent, I'm getting everything from Rony tonight and I'll be compiling the DVD as soon as all the footage is in. Hennie please try and get the pics to me that you took. Think its going to be a bit much for e-mail, but I'm sure there are plenty of people coming this way. Russ I also need to get your pics (the ones I have not got.) Thanks again guys for a great weekend. Lets Ride!!!

Rony, thanks for another memorable riding experience. Difficult to describe this fantastic weekend and great company. The Sunday leisure ride really pushed us to the limits, but the outlook from the summit was awesome !! " Why do we ride on the top of the mountains, because they are there " . By the way, my ride home was easier than I thought, relatively little traffic on Sir Lowry's Pass, just some gusts. Looking forward to the videos and photos !!

The whole week-end was great , Baviaans beautiful , food delicious , thanks Rony for organising it, it was run so smoothly , thanks also to the charming back- up drivers, what FUN we had :) ''"4 wheels move the body,'' ''2 wheels move the soul"''

Agreement..... ............ All appreciation, comments and sentiments I absolutely agree with and thank those that took the time today to make the many posts. Top draw clothing always seems to take the most delicate and personal part of a wardrobe. Just like the people I crossed the river with this weekend. TOP DRAW!!!!!!!!With a little rough edging. But that's what I liked the most. The Rough and Ready gave me the opportunity and freedom to express my inner man the conqueror adventurer without reprisal. Safety always came first though. Put my name down NOW for the next R and R. Rusty in the eye of adventure.

Depends which route you take, but the road there is fine. Baviaans pass itself isn't something you want a novice to tow a trailer through though as there are some long drops and nowhere to reverse a trailer if you meet oncoming 4x4s. Also some tight turns. My best advice is to Give Rony a call, he knows the area like the back of his hand. ''If you can dream it you can do it!''

Thanks Peter, We have already decided to leave the trailer in George for the reason of passing and the driver is quite experienced however i wished to get an idea of the difficulty of the road and risk of damage to the vehicle. Could you send me Rony's phone number please. herrington01@yahoo.com

You will find many answers and lots of advice & tips in previous threads on Baviaans. Type '''BAVIAANSKLOOF''' in the ''Search'' window (top right on Forum page. Plenty to read!

Here's some considered advice from my experience of the trip: Snore louder than your buddy. Don't eat cabbage before climbing in your sleeping bag. Keep your wine in view at all times. Check that your heated handlebars are off before riding. Check your boots for bottle tops before dressing. Don't bend over if someone is behind you with cold water. Actually no advice needed. Ride well, ride safe and prepare for lots of dust. (And don't forget there will be oncoming traffic on the dirt roads!) Enjoy. ''If you can dream it you can do it!''

The term used is Mother Nature(feminine), the Baviaans changes all the time, and some times very quickly too.:-) Advice is a guideline only, I rode through alone, easy and quick, others have been forced to turn back. Unpredictable....it's/her charm!:-)

Nick en kie. There has never yet being a reason to turn back other than your own comfort zone. It's been a dry season, lots of dust, water is very low and little. Be patient with the cars and pass when you are sure its safe. 3 geocaches in the baviaans. You'll find it relatively easy W to E or E to W. Take your time or you'll miss the best parts. If you pm me I'll send you coords for the secret waterfall inside the mountian and the crocodile rock- two stunning features not on any tourist map. Try keep it that way. if you do visit the waterfal, make a noise at the entrance to the gorge as antelope drink from there in the dry times and you don't want to be in the path of a cornered buck and its freedom- no matter how small it is. The awesome Crocodile Rock, off the beaten track and a MUST SEEThe awesome Crocodile Rock, off the beaten track and a MUST SEE Entrance to the hidden waterfall: in the reserve.
