All Tar Breakfast Run to Elgin

We have not been to this venue before, so with the summer on our doorstep it is time to explore new boundaries, both in terms of destination and palate.

We will leave from our regular departure point at Engen Plattekloof Village at 08H00. It is an all tar easy ride. Please note however that there is a short stretch of gravel driveway from the N2 to the venue, about 300metres long.

The 130km route will take us via Klapmuts over the beautiful Franschoek Pass, through the orchards and on to the Hickory Shack, where Vanessa is looking forward to hosting us.

About the venue:

"Country livin’ teaches slow-cookin’. In the tradition of Texas-BBQ we have created a smokehouse here in Elgin SA, where wood-fires and blue smoke set the perfect moment for the pit-masters craft. We never use electric smokers, use local woods and organic chips and believe that only time will serve the cut. All our meats are carefully selected for the heritage, texture and taste they bring. We honour the Texas tradition of dry rub meat over smoke and sauce after. We take it slow, slow, slow so you can enjoy just the right amount of smoke, juice and flavour."

There might even be an extra little surprise for those going along once we get to the venue, according to our host, Mac.

The ride is weather permitting and on our way back, for those interested, we will enjoy a further 110km scenic ride.

Ride briefing at 07H50 for departure at 08h00.

Non-members also welcome.
