2015 Cape Town Cycle Tour 8th March. BMWMCCC Marshals once again on the route
Once again the BMWMCCC marshals are assisting on the Cycle Tour.
We have 13 15 marshals on the course this year.
Working on all 8 sectors, and leading the course clearance before the start, it is a long day in the sun.
It calls for very high degree of rider discipline, bike handling skills at very low speeds
Aslo the odd task of ferrying a paramedic from an ambulance to the scene and parking protectively to prevent anyone hitting injured competitors.
This year the team includes some marshals riding for the first time amongst those seasoned marshals with many races behind them when it was still known as the Argus Cycle Tour.
I will happily volunteer Andy , if you can use me for anything.

Donford Motorrad Cape Town is offering all marshalls for the Cape Town Cycle Tour the use of our demo bikes.
So if you would like to use a demo bike intead of your own please contact me and I will arrange a bike for you with a full tank of petrol, unfortunately first come first serve.

OK - so some of us are willing BUT where do we get the training needed so that we can help in future? This time I might still be cycling but one of these years I might be lazy and willing to help....

The new 2015 armbands
The new armbands are reversable, orange one side yellow other side
Course accreditation- wrsitbands, and bike stickers. and the LZ control cards
Hi marshals, race slashed in half, the roadways are closed to facilitate fire fighting vehicles and peninsula traffic so the passes are out of the option for safety reasons and to leave access to emergency vehicles.
We will recce the new route for hazards and turn speeds at the end of the M3 on Saturday at 09H00.

Tony Schlee is attending the wrap-up meeting on Monday 16th to give feedback and get feedback.
Doing points duty at Buitengracht, many cyclists thanked us as they came past.
I pulled a total of six cars off the course during the day, that had managed to get in amongst the cyclists
We were on the start line by 05H00
On Saturday we rode the course on the bikes sponsored by Donford Motorrad, getting to know the new challenges of the halved Cycle Tour route
Danie set off 20 minutes before the start as lead sweep for the course commisaire to clear the track: and to ensure the flag marshals were all on station and all access roads blocked
During lead sweep I picked up no less than 10 objects off the racing line, from broken car parts to stones, bolts and packaging.
all in a day's work.
.....and we rode a the speed of the cyclists, keeping them safe, responding to accidents: Calling the emergency response teams and parking to defend the downed patient.
Helping here and there to get a cyclists repair work done, assisting riders trapped by cramps and getting them safely out the danger zone.
And yet we were just a very small part of very big, well oiled machine.
The flag marshal were excellent.
The sector marshals are very seasoned and experienced and work hard.
The emergency services are excellent.
Acting shepherd, slow, quiet bikes, looking after 35 000 cyclists: removing discarded water bottles from the race line, working with the other organisations that all come together to make a safe and enjoyable Cycle Tour.

A huge thanks you to all the marshals for keeping it safe for the cyclists on the day.
I enjoyed my ride and always appreciate the fact that if you need assistance a marshal is close on hand. The marshals were also at hand to assit with puncture repairs along the way.
