Has anyone had the rubber perishing on the rubber boot connecting the final drive to the gearbox? Mine has cracked all the way through! I bought the bike second hand about a month ago and only noticed recently that the cracks went all the way through. On the outside it only looked like surface cracks.
Would it be possible to use something like a rubber glue, repair or sealent that would fix the cracks instead of having to change it?
Also, would it be an expensive job if I took it to the dealers to replace?
The boot on my bike is also cracked. Any advice will be appreciated.
.. I don't think repair is an option. It will just tear again. Replace with fresh rubber. If you ask Donfords for a quote you might be surprised.
Bear in mind, replacing final drive shaft or bearings is expensive - for want of a rubber boot that just doesn't seem sensible.
Thanks for the advice Charles. I will get in touch with Donford to see how badly it wil affect my wallet.
HI Gentleman.
There is no oil inside of the the rear wheel fork so it is there to seal out dust and or moisture. The rubber boot is a costly item and the labour could be quite tedious. At a bmw dealer you are going to be paying at least R1000 for the job!
I have a malleable glue which could be applied from the outside.
If its also about aesthetics the answer would be to replace it.
Hi Jandre, thanks for the feedback. I'm more concerned about dust and water getting in so I am willing to give the glue a try. What is the glue product called and where can I get hold of it?
Hey no problem. The product is called sole saver, actually meant for fixing shoes with it.But it works well.
You can come make a turn at my workshop in bellville when you have a chance and Ill seal it up.
Greetings.

Baie dankie Jandre vir die patch. Ook vir die centre stand se rubber en die groot voet vir die side stand wat jy gaan maak.
