Any advice please - this morning when i tried to start my bike, it wouldnt. When i press the starter button the bike makes a clicking noise - could this be caused by a flat battery. If the answer to that is a yes - why does it go flat so quickly - rode home from the meeting last night - at about 10.30 - was on the bike this am at about 6.40.

Hi, Yes, it is the battery. Mine once went flat from the GPS staying on for about an hour. But then , the battery was 2 years old and the guy from Donford that came to my rescue told me the battery is not very strong. He jump started me and I took a long way home and all was fine there after. Danie.

I also think its the battery.Mine once died on the way to Baviaanskloof in Calitzdorp without any warning whatsoever! We were having breakfast and the bike just wouldn't start.Jumped it but as soon as I took the jumpers off,the bike died (not enough power for the computor). One guy had to go through to Oudshoorn to get me a new one.

Not sure about the 1200's, but the 1150's came out with a 14Ah battery & I have the choice to replace it with a 19Ah, more expensive but will handle more drain. Check it out before you make your purchase.

Went through 2 batteries on mine..... in 4 months. 2006 R1200 GS... these gel batteries are not cheap either. R1800 for a new one. Luckily the 2nd one was still under warranty. Also, FYI, if yours is a 2006 model, there is a technical campaign on the transponder ring around the ignition for the immobiliser. You might want to get it checked out as they are prone to pack up if you leave the bike out in the sun.... Happened to me and I got nicely stranded.
