My bike will get a 30 000km service within the next week or so. I am hoping for a vastly improved fuel consumption afterwards, I suppose this will be in vain!! My question to everyone else. What is the fuel cosumption that one can expect from the 1150, and the specific the GSA with the different gear ratios. At the moment I get on average just below 15 km per ltr. Someone else said that he is getting 17 and up to 18 km per liter at a steady 130km/h. Please share youre experiences in this regard.

Mr. Badger (1150GS) gets about 15km/l too. Don't forget, you are also quite heavy. Thing is, you could get similar consumption in a small car, but not riding the way I do...

I get 14Km/L in day to day traffic and a bit of weekend riding in between. When riding like a vark it drops down to 12Km/L I am getting the bike checked out next week as I think it might be starving for air or possibly even a problem with the coil according to some experts. I am also interested to hear what other 1150GSA riders are getting! Creating significant experiences

I found some strange thing on all my bikes. Whenever I take it for a service, (At any of our three dealers) it is drinking fuel like a camel. After about two to three tanks it settles back to the normal. Anybody got an explanation for this? R1200RT gives me 5.2L 100Km R1200GSA gives me 5.5L 100Km

Christo, I have the same thing with my 650... It takes about 500km after a service before my fuel consumption settles... My average fuel consumption is about 21km/litre... for about 2 tanks after a service it drops to about 15km/litre.. strange! Corné Kloppers 0849130391 ckloppers@gmail.com

Maybe it's the new fuel filter. Perhaps it is very porous in the beginning and gradually reaches optimum filtering porosity? Or, the air filter?

The 650's fuel filter only gets replaced on 40 000km... It's a R1000 for a 650 fuel filter :-) Corné Kloppers 0849130391 ckloppers@gmail.com

Daantjie, I get an average of 15 to 16 km/l at a maximum of 130km/h on my 1150 GSA commuting from Durbanville to Cape Town. At a maximum of 120 km/h and not "riding like a vark" (as per Jerichorider - we in fact stay in the same street - and he very seldom rides like a vark!) I get 17km/l. Thus with the 30l tank you can in theory get just over 500km from one tank! I recall that Andyman gets about 500km on his bike per tank as a rule. An important factor is however not so much the top speed but the manner in which you turn the throttle. Quick gear changes, no power pull-aways and avoiding full throttle overtaking maneuvers, play a major role in reducing consumption. A clogged air filter or should the air intake not be optimal, will certainly effect the consumption adversely. In May I experienced this when Johan Burger's 1150 GS had an air intake problem and he got not more than 10 km/l on the N1 highway for 1000km, traveling at a maximum of 140km/h. As to your question, I think it is possible to get up to 17km/l at a very steady and careful 130km/h, provided that the bike is in tip top shape and that you get to the 130km/h by very careful twisting of your right hand.

Maybe of interrest to you.. The sensor just before the cat. converter also plays a part in fuel consumption. Have it checked out as well. This is a flow sensor which gives a signal back to the injection control to "increase' injection rate in relation to the flow measured in the exhaust. A Software test cycle should pick up mulfunctioning sensors, etc. regards

a Lot of info then point to average 16km /ltr with the possible odd 17 km/ltr. I will see after this 30 000 km service if the new plugs makes the difference. Recently I could not achieve better than 14 km/ltr.

Hi there,I've had mine for a year now & get between 15 & 18 kms/litre @ speeds of 120 to 140. Entered an economy run lasy year(NOMADS) & left panniers & topbox on,with pillion,& couldn't believe it when i won the overall category with an average of just over 22km/litre. Never used the prizes though as they had expired by the time i got round to it!

Andy says nothing, he just smiles......... Agshully, I get a ateady 500 to 546 k's out of my tank(30l) and I have 100 km from the moment the orange reserve light stays on steady. But then I never go over 130kph. After Shane replaced my coils, I got a once off 600km!!!! out the full tank. Thats 19km/litre. Never again though. Oh yah. An my stead has 97 300 km on the clock today. Big birthday coming up this month!!! The airfilter is critical to good consumption. So is a neat clean riding style. Jack -rabbit pullaways chew fuel in gulps. Slteady pull aways up smoothly through the gears sip slowly at the fuel pipe. I get to 6th steadily and ride there. As for standing up, maybe if I sat down I'de get even better consumption. Hmmmm.... I'll never know though, will I. Andyman Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic on the 1150GSA.

Remove the seat (that thing you never use) - maybe the reduction in weight will better the consumption?
