Update from the organisers: Worcester Wheels Fest – 2008 WOW!!! What a show – The “Wild Buggers” can be extremely proud of a Festival well organized and well executed. But for those that don’t know the story we have to go back and start the journey in November 2007. WWF 2007 – Status - Successfully completed. We got crazy feedback from happy car owners, stall owners, visitors, friends and colleagues. A proud and satisfied team – Anton, Naomi, Floris, Barbara and Tom Bishop sat back with a sigh – we done it. One thing however that always goes hand in hand with planning a successful show is STRESS – and high levels of that, I might add. We separated then, some made vows to never get involved in the planning again, some resigned from the club due to work loads. And then there was the “outjies” that stuck it out and said – 2008 here we come. December 2007 – The first meeting to plan WWF 2008. Committee: - Anton and Naomi from Cape Town – the rest from Worcester. Like I said, WWF’s stress broke up a “hellave” good team – and sadly, but with heads held high, we carried on – we missed our team – but like they say “The show must go on!”. WWF first started with this one sentence – “This show, I can organize bigger and better” – Anton’s words, while relaxing at the Worcester Motor Show in 2006. With 11 cars (waarvan 5 Beach Buggies was) het hierdie droom omvou. Met die hulp van ‘n ongelooflike span het ons WWF – Worcester Wheels Festival – in die lewe geroep. Presies 1 jaar later word hierdie baba gebore. Eers kruip voor jy loop, waarsku baie, maar die WWF hardloop in almal se harte in en skiet wortels wat min kan uittrek. With all of us so new to Project and Events Planning, we jumped in and organized a show to be proud of. WWF 2007 was small but hugely successful. 220 cars was the count. 180 registered. A Steak-braai, Battle-of-the-Bands for the youth. Our entertainment was Jan and a team of talented young women - new and upcoming singers, singing and entertaining everyone on the Saturday – people had a great time. For October the weather didn’t want to play along. It was overcast and the wind almost blew us away, but all in all it was definitely a weekend to remember. The Beach Buggy Club SA handed over R16 000 to Charity – Pioneer School. For many of you this amount certainly would not sound as much, but for the 1st time in a game so furious and fast paced, we held our heads high and gave an awesome performance. A chance to catch a breather and December 2007, everyone took a welcome break from WWF. January 2008 a new committee was formed – Anton and Naomi was the only contingent from Cape Town and off course the Beach Buggy Club SA. In February 2008 Anton and Naomi decided to start our very own company - Kleyn Begin – We started making Biltong and Droë Wors and it was flying out of Melkbos. We had absolutely no rest from WWF however. Meetings, marketing, trying to find stalls, meeting with new people and old ones. Radio Presentations, News Paper Releases, Emails, Phone Calls – and still the list just went on. In between we had to be mom and dad – children writing exams, not doing homework, complaining, but we also had some fun (if you can call making biltong fun). And then trouble - Computers packed up – one month we lost our Fridge, Washing Machine and 2 Computers due to “old age”. Our club still had their monthly Runs and News Letters was still at the order of the day. August came so quickly and the meetings for WWF were never ending. Once in Cape Town, once in Worcester and so it went on and on. We had planning sessions, organizing new idea meetings, “koppe-stamp” and “koppe-bymekaar-sit”-sessies and every time we learned and grew. As you all are aware, the monies made at WWF is going our Charity - Pioneer School. All we want is for the “Buggers” to support us in big numbers at the show. And so they did. From The President of the Beach Buggy Club, Anton Kleyn and the Secretary Naomi, a very special thank you to Floris and Dave T (our Car-Parkers). You were awesome – given the space that was available to park the cars, you did the unthinkable. To Sharon and Christo – your support on the day and right through the year was incredible. When we needed something you were there to help and support. You are not just club members, you are incredible friends. To my sister Sandra – you are the best. You supported us, not only on the day at Worcester, but you are always there for the family. You took our kids under your wing when we were just to busy to be there for them. On the day, you supported the Wild Buggers, you bought coffee and slap chips, help direct cars at the gates and the whole day you looked after our well being. Thanx – you are great!! Nic, our friend, we trusted you with transporting special cargo - our children - to Worcester – thanx friend – it gave them the chance to experience the Best Motor Show this side of the Sahara. Then last but not least, Barbie. You had the heart to stick with us and at times just gave us the space and understanding we needed to get the job done. Thanx for being our “invisible” friend when we needed just that – as a Committee Member of The Beach Buggy Clubs SA we truly value you. To our Car, Bike, Tractor and Toy Clubs, Stall Owners, Entertainers and all those we forgot to mention – a heart felt THANK YOU. Your support is valued. Without you this show was not possible. You made it a Great Show!! ‘n Mens is nooit te oud om te leer nie – so het hierdie skou dit ook reggekry om my iets te leer. Om geduldig te wees. Wanneer ‘n mens ‘n saadjie plant, met die gedagte dat jy ‘n groot skadu-boom wil hê, moet jy realisties wees en die boom nie binne ‘n week verwag nie. Jy kan ook nie die saadjie uit die grond haal wanneer dit nie gou genoeg groei nie. Leave it in the ground, give it lots of water, attention and care and before you know it, you will be able to enjoy the shade. This is what WWF taught me – Now we are enjoying the shade. Spent and tired after long months of planning – Anton and Naomi can lie under the shade of this beautiful tree – and what’s amazing - there is space for many. We want you all to be proud of this tree, cause before long everybody in South Africa is going to talk about WWF. We hope that WWF 2009 will be even more successful and that each and everyone of you will again support us in an initiative to help those in need!! CAR LOVERS AND CHARITY UNITE!! FINAL UPDATE WORCESTER WHEELS FESTIVAL KLEINPLASIE – 24 & 25 OCTOBER 2008 A big sigh of relief for all organizers of this all important show The Final Countdown has begun A get-together not to be missed!! Advertising this event was great fun, but also very hard work – Some of our Exhibitors had a chance to promote their special car or club on Radio RSG. This was very special and we thank RSG for promoting this event to such an extent. Important News – Event WWF is featured in Huisgenoot of 20/21 October 08. With all the publicity, people are phoning from as far as JHB, Pretoria, Springs, Durban and Bloem to join us. Sunday 19/10/08 we went to Kleinplasie to mark out the plots for the Stalls. Although we did the markings for the stalls, we left space for those that still want time to decide. Our plots are R300 for the weekend – the space provided is 3 x 4m. If there is anyone that would still like to have a stall at WWF please contact Naomi on 082 4289 216. Some good news for those of us that are staying over on Friday & Saturday Evening, Kleinplasie does not have a problem if we want to light a fire to braai. There is a few braai-dromme available at a cost of R50 per braai-drom. Naomi and I decided that we will sponsor three braai-dromme for the Friday & Saturday evening. Everyone is welcome to join us for a braai – a central get together area for braaiing will be available to all that want to dop and chop with the Organisers of the WWF. Remember to bring some wood and your eats (those of you that have space to bring your rooster, it will be appreciated) More things to do for children and adults: Friday’s Steak Braai and Dance – R120 per person. All children will be entertained, under adult super vision, with DVD’s etc. Spookhuis Paintball Remote control Airshow Big Screen TV for the Curry Cup Final…… etc. ect. etc. Remember the casual dance on Saturday night. This is absolutely free and everyone can join us to relax after a long day. You are welcome to sleep over again in your tents. Those of you that want to party, please be responsible and rather sleep over than head home in a not so sober state. We care about all lives – look after yours – it’s the only one you have!! On a different note – we need some help! We are attaching a Flyer for distribution – please help us to distribute them so that even more people can be aware of this show. The more people that attend the show, the more financial help we can give the Pioneer School. As Organizers of the WWF, Naomi and I want to thank each and everyone for attending and making an effort to be there. Also to the people that phoned to offer help and give something small towards this project, it is so much appreciated. Without you, our Car Exhibitors, stalls-owners and Friends, this show would not have been possible. If there is some of you that feel a need to bring some stationary, old clothes, toiletries etc. it can make a huge difference in these kids lives (this is only a request and NOT a must). Direction to Worester – Klein Plasie (From Cape Town) N1 to Worcester. 1ste Worcester Turn-off (just after the Shell Ultra City) turn left. This road becomes Rabie Street just after the Train Bridge. Follow this road until you get to High Street (Hoogstraat) – Turn left and go straight until you get a board that says Roberton – R62. Here you turn right. Kleinplasie is about 500m on, to your left. Some background provided by the organisers of the event: Why did the WWF decide to make the Pioneer School our Charity Event?? HISTORY – PIONEER SCHOOL It was a dream of two preachers in 1877 to have a school for deaf and blind children in Worcester. The first deaf girl followed by a blind boy arrived in Worcester in 1881. The first property was bought and the first building erected for the school in 1882. The blind and deaf learners were separated in 1905. The school on the central campus where the primary school is situated at present was built in 1907. In 1953 the learners wore school uniforms for the first time and the school song were written in 1956. New Afrikaans Braille was introduced to the pupils in 1964. With the 100th birthday celebrations the name of the school changed to Pioneer School. In 1984 the section for visually impaired children opened on the Langerug campus where the high school and multi disabled section are situated at the moment. Learners with specific learning problems were taken in at the school in 1995. At present there are 82 blind, 45 partially sighted, 7 deaf & blind, 27 multi disabled and 100 learning problem pupils in the school – thus a total of 261. At the moment 78 of these learners are totally dependent on the school in respect of scholarship, stationary, hostel accommodation, clothes, toiletries, pocket money etc. On 15 June 2008 the school celebrated their 127th birthday.
