Hi All,
As some of you may know, one cannot buy a fuel filter for the 650, 700 or 800 GS (twin cylinder engine versions) separately, you will need to buy the whole fuel pump assembly for about R5k if either the filter or the pump (or level sensor) fail.
The filter is however a standard Mahle KL 315 and these are available from Mahle RSA, but not direct to the public. So I am trying to convince one of our local aftermarket dealers to sign up with Mahle and stock them, minimum quantity is apparently 10 which is not a huge number.
I will take one immediately of course, and I'm sure there are at least nine other folk who would be keen to buy one too? Please let me know via this post then I can "encourage" someone like Chris from FB to order some.
PS I know there is a "work around / mod" on the Wild Dog forum for an external filter, but if we can get the KL 315 why mess with it doing a mod?
The R5k assembly looks like this...
What estimate price are we looking at?
Hi,
Also consider speaking to Jandre Koekemoer, who is a BMW mechanic working from home. He might 1. offer you some advise in this regard, or 2. be interested to buy these filters - zero76 11three-89eleven.
I hope this helps.....
They cost about Euro 15.00 incl VAT if ordered over the web, which translate to about R255.00 (But the Euro 35.00 postage makes that option unviable)
So I would expect local mark-up to probably R350.00 ea?
Hi guys
I'm going to have my 2002 650 serviced by Jandre in 2 weeks time. He quoted me for the service and added that he would test the fuel filter. The quote for a new filter according to Jandre is R1500. Another member,Rob Henst is currently having his bike serviced at Jandre and according to Rob,earlier today, the price for the fuel filter for him is also R1500. Rob also has a 650.
Better check with him if he does not intend drilling through the old filter and installing a new external filter...
Hi Alfred - as promised, I rang Mahle to check they were FIRM on the minimum quantity you mention, and they have promised to get back to me during the day today, to confirm, or assist if they can...
Cheers, Chris & Team
I had a chat with Jandre Koekemoer, who has never replaced one, but does replace a few 650 (singles), so I think the way to proceed is to get Mahle to revise their minimum quantities.
I will phone Shane Hoskins and Andrew Kindg for their input, too.
Cheers, Chris & Team
Thanks Chris,
Apologies if some 650 single cyl owners misunderstood this post but I did correct it as well as the heading now.
The KL315 fuel filter is used on the 650, 700 and 800 twin engines (and also on the 650 X-challenge single cylinder only) not the older 650 single cylinder alla Dakar, Ceratao etc.
For the older single cylinder 650 Jandre can replace the fuel filters yes, and they have stock, (I was there this morning).
Hi Alfs
Thanks for the update.
No reply back from Mahle yesterday, so I have sent them a reminder e-mail.
Cheers, Chris & Team
..rang suppliers again today, "sorry Sir, we WILL get back to you..."
Will post as soon as I hear back from them...
Chris
Thanks for trying Chris! At this stage Mahle RSA has lost out, just ordered from http://www.motorworks.co.uk since I have a buddy from the office going there for business next week and who will be bringing it home for me. It was only £22 which comes to about R475.00 with delivery in London.
