Hi Guys, am i the only one to be rather put off by the high premiums required for our bikes ? When i collected my 2015 R1200GSA LC i was quoted nigh on R600 per month !!! This is rather on the high side if you consider that the bike is not used on a daily basis, i then asked for my insurer to increase the excess payable & reduce the monthly payment, they refused & said that this was the price ,,,,,,,,,, years ago there used to be an insurance company that specialised in insuring BMW Dual Sport bikes, with the result that their premiums were very affordable.
Who do you guys use ? What would you consider to be a fair premium on a 2015 LC machine ?
I would appreciate all comments.
Regs,
Jon
Hi Jonathan
I added my bike to my household policy, your premium is higher but not that much. On R162k value I pay R573
Thanx for the response David, the insurance i have is with my household policy, with specified items, my motorcars & building ins too , my point is that i am nearly 60 years of age, surely i should get a far better premium ? You know the saying, " to be old & wise, you first have to be young & stupid " ...........well surely this should apply to a premium loading with regards a motorcycle ?
Speak to this lady. She has just helped me with insuring the extras on my bike and all the clothing, helmets, etc. Very professional and efficient.

My household contents, all risks and two cars are insured with Santam, and have been for decades, but they are not geared for bikes and couldn't match the premium offered by BMW insurance. I can't vouch for the claims process, as I've never had to claim (touch wood).
Thanks Trevor, i will certainly give her the opportunity to quote.......
Good morning
I added my bike to my Outsurance policy (household,etc..) and the additional cost was very well priced. I have also had extremely good service from Outsurance when I had to be collected and repatriated from the Cedarberg.
Second to that, they completely covered a 3rd party claim and my premiums never increased. Very satisfied with with what Outsurance offer me in South Africa as well as what they offered me when I did a Namibia trip.
Hi Guys
One thing about the BMW insurance....they dont quarrel when you claim and it is a smooth process. I for one will stay with them.
BMW referred me to Alexander Forbes
Hi Jonathan, I agree with Trevor and Hans, BMW Insurance is the very best insurance you can get for your BMW bike, not the cheapest but the best. this humble opinion is based on 15 years of specific experience.
I disagree. I have been on 2 trips with people insured by BMW insurance and they both had major hassles about repatriation and what is covered and what is not. Their premiums are also much higher than Outsurance
i asked for a quote and had a good look at the policy.
the BMW insurance will NOT come to your aid or repatriate you or your bike if you are on a dirt road.
i will probably stay with Integrisure who will.
the BMW insurance will NOT come to your aid or repatriate you or your bike if you are on a dirt road.
Not 100% correct. The policy states
"No vehicle will be provided assistance where the breakdown was caused by any off-road recreational activity and where we cannot reach you by a normally travelled or established thoroughfare."
Exceptions
9)loss or damage incurred outside the Republic of South Africa; provided that this exception shall not apply where the vehicle is removed from the Republic of South Africa to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique and or Zambia for a period not exceeding 30 (thirty) days or such longer period provided that
a) such longer period is agreed in writing beforehand by the Company;
b) if the vehicle is damaged outside the Republic of South Africa, the Company will not be liable for any damage unless the Insured has at the Insured’s own cost repatriated the vehicle to the Republic of South Africa;
Outsurance will repatriate you and your bike from outside South Africa
Well guys , it seems a lot of interesting debate here,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I will try & get a few quotes from various sources before just moving my bike to another company.
Hi Johnathan. I have been using
my insurance through a broker co called Indwe Risk managers. I am with them for many years now and am gettig a very good fee on my 2011GSA. Try them for a quote.
Santam is the underwriter and my bike is included in my whole household and car portfolio
