Can somebody help me please...................
Why does every robber and his dog have this unending need/desire to "wheely" their bikes. Does it mean you can "ride", you have big "magodies", you are saving rubber on the front wheel, impressing your mates, showing off or proving that you "can" ride a bike?.
Many of you know me as a very inexperienced rider who raced "off road" for many years and took part in numerous of the big name off road events. However never then or now was I ever obsessed with lifting the front wheel unless it was in order to clear and obstacle. A practice I still use today.
Please guys put me out of my misery..........."Why this unending obsession to ride on the back wheel"?
Hi GR I will be carefull as I know your riding skills are way above the average rider. Do you remember having a skateboard or bmx as a kid I remember getting board with the flat riding very quickly and constantly trying to push the limmits of skill on the skateboard or bmx the feeling of accomplishment when you first land a trick that you have been practising for months is a good feeling. To lift the front wheel of a motorcycle is one thing to keep it there for a distance is another that does require a amount of skill. If every robber and his dog could do it well then guys like Christiaan phiffer and craig jones and the rest would be unemployed . To sum up it's probably a small sense of accomplishment the same sense one gets when one learns to ride sand propely without falling over for the first time.
does this help?
And here I thought Geoff was the leaader of "the pack". :)
Geoff, I am one of those that have saved up for a long period before I was able to buy my first BMW. It truly hurts to see some people that have absolutely no respect for their bikes. Wat bewys jy deur iets deur jou G@t te trek?
I reckon that if I can ride competently on one wheel it will make riding on two that much easier by comparison. So I am not averse to learning how - but Brenda is not prepared to let me learn by '''trial and error''' - it has to be by '''training and success''' ;-)
Charles you are a thinker
I tryed the trial and error thing, not a good idea very expensive. Then I built myself a bike to learn on .I religously flipped it 15 times a day on purpose so that I new exactly what not to do. I also joined the stunter school to learn from the pros. A lot of people give the wrong advise and a lot of people think they can wheelie untill they try I still have the learners bike if you want it.
Flipper, I think you anwered yourself.
Trial and error - very expensive
Then you went for TRAINING.
That combined with the X-series of bikes - that is what they are made for. Pupose buildt "toys".
Theoretically ANY bike can wheelie (even an 1100 RT), but only bikes like the X-series were buildt specifically for that type of duty. There are people out "here" that do take the term "dual purpose" a little bit further than the designerrs intended.
I hope this is more "tactful".
What a pity, A really cool thread hijacked and off-topic.
Bikers are big kids. Kids wheelie bikes. Fact of life! Get it wrong and you're gonna pay.
More pics like this please!

WHEELIE foto!!
