Is this tyre still useable?

Although my Anakee 3's that came with my bike when I bought it last year were not ready for replacement I decided to fit a set of more "off-road" type tyres anyway. As the treads on the Anakees were still probably 50-60% front and 70-80% back I brought the old tyres back as well.

Looking now at the front tyre that was removed I see some damage to the inner bead - see photo's.

Question - is this tyre still ok to use again  or is the damage going to result in a leaking tyre on the rim? My thoughts are that the tyre is not useable but I welcome input from those with more knowledge and experience.

Oeps, stay away!

You really don't want to fit this again.

I would not worry about a leak but rather a tire that leaves your rim at speed! No matter what kind of rider you are its going to cause a rear exit muscle effect!

yes, I concur, the risk(s) are too high, rather replace the tire.

(I would go even further, and make sure, when discarding it, that no one else could use it, due to safety issues).

My question is: How did the tire get to be damaged like that?

Sloppy removal?

But I would concur. That part of the tire (car or bike) is what keeps your tire staying on the rim, even with a flat. No ways I would use it!

I've seen this many times before, the damage is done by inexperienced tyre removal operators.no
