Hi I am looking for a top box for my 2006 Dakar. I looked at the normal plastic Kappa product today, the the adapter plate is too small to fit the carrier without drilling holes. The biggest problem is that if you fit the top box you will have to unscrew the adapter plate to gain access to the little tool box in the tail and also the seat release lever. Is there any other type of top box that will work so that you have access to the toolbox in the tail? Some people suggested that you forget about the toolbox and just fit a string to the seat release mechanism. Or remove the lid of the toolbox and mount the top box on an elevated bracket so that you can put your hand in underneath the top box. I am sure there must be a way around this. I also had a look at the Aluminium boxes. See http://www.bmw-dakar.co.za/luggage but am still waiting for an answer to see if the bracket will give you access to the lid underneath. The real BMW one unfortunately cost R2,400.00.
