Tony, and others who have time to browse the web.

Please can you read upo and let me know what good n bad points this device has

http://africa.findmespot.com/en/

This water/weatherproof device seems to have great traction.

Only issue is it needs to 'see' satellites without the obstruction of a metal roof.

Andy - we planned a launch of the product in late October, but there was insufficient interest AT THAT TIME - so we are now working on a date in the 3rd week of January 2016.

Used heavily on the Amageza, used widely in the USA and Australia, by yachstmen, motorcyclists, off-piste skiers, etc.

The product has been around for a good couple of years - we in South Africa waited for 2 things to happen before launching the product - the coverage 'footprint' used to end around Gaberone, and did not stretch down to South Africa, but 6 months ago coverage was achieved.

the 2nd issue was we wanted to go with a 'global standard', something akin to Garmin, something that could become a known standard in safety, so when I visited Australia, I met us with 2 riders who use SPOT, and they were more than happy with the product/service.

ROUGHLY - the product costs around R2K per year for the subscription service, and a once-off payment of R2650 for the actual device - the 3rd generation SPOT. You activate the subscription online, giving blood group, next of kin/emergency numbers, etc

We have 2 methods of attaching the product - to your upper arm or hydration pack by means of a soft holder, or else a handle-bar mounted holder which is made of HDPE to prevent any interference with the outgoing GPS signal. SPOT does need a 'sky' view to function optimally.

In addition to mobilizing the cavalry in the event of a serious incident (the global center monitoring SPOT calls out the nearest cavalry, and they can call out multiple, yet different responders), there a re 5 PRE-PROGRAMMED SMS's, that you pre-set, and choose the content, one of which could be "arrived safe at destination, chat when back in cell phone range".

Wives/Family/Friends can then log on to SPOT in real-time, and get a position accurate to your position in the last 3 minutes. A enhanced subscription can give updates every 30 seconds, etc.

So I will post here when we do the launch - the Southern-African importers will handle the presentation and Q& A, probably late January 2016.

Cheers!

Chris & Team
