This week our featured pass is the little known Tierkrans Pass, stuck away on a minor gravel road north east of Barkly East. What is special about this pass is that it gives you access to the Loch Bridge built by Joseph Newey in 1893 as well as the 7th and 8th rail reverses a little higher up the gorge built a few years later. There are very few examples anywhere in the world of this unique style of altitude gaining railway line with no tunnels or bridges - and to add to the magic it was conceived by a local German lady.

We also have chapter 3 on our new series on South African history in this news release.

The page is open to BMW Club members for a week. Get it here: https://mountainpassessouthafrica.co.za/news/item/1461-latest-news-23rd-may,-2019.html
