I write a lot of emails and reports and use "SPELL CHECK" all the time. I have to, or no one will understand the contents. So when I write on this FORUM, I go over and over, just to check the spelling, and hit the "SUBMIT" key. I then(like most people), reread the artical in "Real life" and find a lot more errors. Maybe I should have listened at school. Mr Webmaster, Can't we have "SPELL CHECK" pleeeeeese? This is getting embarrassing.

Unfortunately it is not technically feasible without unacceptible tradeoffs: # If the website provides a spell checker: ## It needs to be downloaded to the browser, along with a dictionary - this makes the site slow to download. ## It needs to run on the browser, which requires either the installation of a plugin (Flash, Java) by the user, or the activation of scripting and various technologies that not everybody will have on their PC # If the website just uses your spell checker: ## It is a security vulnerability and not possible (other than in Windows Explorer) to execute code on someone's PC from a website. It would allow a hacker to run a program to delete all your files. ## Not everybody has the same spell checker, so what exactly would the website run? How about those of you that are lexically-challenged, type up your text in your word processor, have it spell-checked, then paste it into the website? ;-) regards Charles Website Administrator

For my 2c - Writing your article in a Word doc first (then you can come back to it anytime if you keep getting interrupted) and then doing a Spellcheck works very well for me. However, this might be irritating if just posting a small item :)

ARe yu a raelly bad tyipsst? Google Toolbar's new SpellCheck button finds any spelling mistakes whenever you type into a web form, including web-based email, discussion forums, and even intranet web applications. The AutoFix option even corrects all of your text with a single click. Install Google Toolbar http://toolbar.google.com/ :-) Enjoy!

I have tried and tested this one - it's quite cool and seems as though it could work very well. It highlights the background as light-blue and turns all problematic words red-underline. You click on this and it gives you a whole lot of suggestions to choose from.

I have never had a spelling problem. Its my frikkin key board I have a problem with. It can't keep up with my typing and makes all sort os errors if I type fast. So I need a spell check to correct keyboard errors Andyman I am become what those who have influenced my development , have made me. A work-in-progress.

Greetings, I for one cannot spell, but show me a document and I will point out the mis-spelt words. Some time ago I pointed out an error in a document that was written by our M. D. his comment was" It is not my job to spell!!!" Just resently I saw some article about reading/spelling, we note the 1st and last letters only, if this is true what is the problem? Is the position of Secretary and/or typist still available in this world of electronic communication? For what it is worth I drill Jeannette in Scrabble. Bum in the saddle, always.
