Article in the news paper!!!! Cape Town is bracing for massive cold fronts that are set to hit the peninsula this weekend, bringing "absolutely huge waves" and gale-force winds. The pending storm is expected to be so severe that disaster management workers are already on full alert and rescue organisations have warned hikers to avoid mountain paths and bathers and sailors to exercise caution when at sea. We may need to postpone this ride to a later date due to the adverse weather conditons. Please contact me on 084 671 1213 for ride confirmation. DAVE HIGGS UPDATE During the first part of Saturday there'll be fresh winds and some rain. It’s nothing major but there will be strong winds. “The swell actually starts arriving during the day and you can expect waves to reach six metres. “By Sunday, when the second part of the storm hits, waves may reach eight metres and there’ll be even more vicious gale-force winds,” he said. SA Weather Service forecaster Carlton Fillis said “a very windy episode” with waves reaching seven metres was expected between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas on Saturday and Sunday. City of Cape Town Disaster Risk Management Centre spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said if a warning was issued steps would be put in place in case the centre needed to assist any residents affected by the storm. National Ports Authority spokesperson Coen Birkenstock said if a “serious storm” was to hit, it would issue a warning but this had not yet been necessary. NSRI, however, yesterday warned sea-users to be extra cautious as wind speeds were expected to reach more than 50 knots and swells in the deep sea more than nine metres.

This weekend's weather is not a joke guys, I have read about up to 80km/h winds in Kleinmond on Saturday and Sunday. I am in Betty's bay this weekend with friends and family and have decided to use the cage rather than the bike. If you are out riding this weekend please be carefull? This sounds like it is going to be similar to the return ride of last years mystery tour to "die Herberg" I remember coming home down the N2 in a straight line at a 45 degree angle, driving rain and gusting further over. Not pleasant !!! Keep your feet on the pegs, and your hat on - Safe riding to all

I was in Montague this weekend and I have done 900Km around Montague on Friday, Saturday and today... about 500km was off road. Today was the best day riding day... I'm sorry to say the weather forecast was completely blown up... You need weekends like this to test your rain gear ;-) Regards, Corné

Girls ;-) This weekend we were out every day, on sand! :) But I agree - doing a trip in adverse weather raises the risk and danger and makes everything worse if there should be an incident. Website Administrator [http://honeybadger.net Honey Badger IT Services]

Charles, wet/damp sand is easier to ride than hot dry sand ;-) hehe... and you say it out loud :-)

Corne - welcome back! Turns out that wet sand makes the tracks of others more firm and thus more disturbing. But we did find soft dry sand as well. Ask Geoff the condition of the sand during trips when there were incidents - almost always early in the morning when there is dew on the sand. Pity you are off to Oz before the next Sand Course - it is the most fun of all the courses and at the end you will love sand and be riding like an enduro racer. Thanks :-) I'm looking forward to the ride this weekend! I can imagine the "sand ruts" can be nasty! Glad you all made it back safely. I will get a sand course in someday ;-) Cheers, Regards, Corné
