First start up - the speedo digital parts just flicker and the speedo and rev counter do not work - after riding for approx 10 minutes everything comes right and then stays fine for the rest of the day but same problems the next morning - anyone else with similar problem?

Could be that your battery voltage is a bit too low until the bike has run a bit.  Might be the regulator, or the battery itself.  What model bike?

I had some aweful problems with the regulator when it started wearing out.  The bike would run erratically until it warmed up.  Worth checking.  It might also have contributed to your needing a new battery.

On this website you will find heaps of info and howtos.  The regulator is that rectangular black thing with fins that used to be under the seat on a Funduro, but was moved to being on the engine near the front on later models.  It gets 3 yellow wires in, and has a black and a red wire out.  It turns the AC from the alternator into the 14V DC for the battery.

You test it with a voltmeter/ohmmeter, full details of how will be on f650.com

I checked the battery = 12.75V

Started bike and at idle charging at 14.3V but when I rev to 3000 the charge drops to 13.8V - is this correct as I thought it would go up slightly?

When the bike revs it uses more power (to generate more sparks).  And 13.8 is perfect.  Your regulator seems to be fine.  Damn, must be something else.

You thought of taking the bike to someone like Ruan, Alf, Shane or Andrew King?  They know these bikes inside-out.
