Thought i would share the below pictures and some info;

This sidecar that was Designed by a South African Engineer many years ago and build with the help of a ex Neighbour of mine Called Flexit as it leaned with the Bike ie you rode your bike as per normal.You will notice the George Reg.number on the Bike (proof of the origin)

The below info was sent to me by a Guy John Goff who is called the Flexit Historian (see his details and the Web Address below)

i Got the Pictures from my ex Neighbour a few years ago.It would appear that the designer left South Africa without informing my Neighbour and proceeded to Manufacture and sell the Flexit overseas.Great pity that the Designer for some reason withdrew from the scene and apparantly refuses to talk to anyone.

over the course of some 25 years, the Flexit was produced in some numbers in South Africa (27), California (perhaps 50), and Holland (92) plus 5 or 6 Single Sided Swigarm (SSS) models that Hannes independently produced from his home there in Zelhem from 2000 to 2005. Flexit manufacture officially ended in 2005.

Thank you for sharing.

an awesome bit of engineering.

The wheel is mounted in a normal front fork assembly with disc brakes.

and it has a stereo tape deck/radio in the side car.

I love the sliding canopy which cna probably detach for summer.

Canopy opens forward so will not easily open accidentally while in motion.

Truly great design. I can't understand that this concept has not been developed and produced in greater numbers.

I remember them well, way ahead of it's time, that in my opinion was the problem.

Think before you ink.

and towed by a Flying Brick, I see (BMK K100 or K75)

I did follow a couple that were sold in the last 18 months or so (locally), one was attached to a Goldwing, and the whole rig sold fairly cheaply...

Rene is right - these were ahead of their time, surely! I think there is one that attends the Knysna or George classic car and bike show every year?

Cheers
