Hi all the Fossils out there.

I am planning a Fossil ride to Sutherland on Thursday 22/3/2018. Leaving on the Thursday morning from the N1 Engen at 08:00. Fueled, tyres pumped and coffee taken. From there via Du Toitskloof, Rawsonville, Ceres, Touws River/ stop for refueling and brekkie, then to Matjiesfontein for coffee/ Jagermeister and then the next 110 km to Sutherland. Arriving early afternoon.

I have made inquiries at few of the guest houses and places to dash down for the night. Surprisingly two of the cheapest guest houses wanted to charge us a R50.00 extra cleaning fee for the night as the say that they are preparing for weekends once a week and to accommodate us will result in cleaning twice the week. ( lekker uitgevreet nou al) So, I came up with the Sutherland Hotel offering us R400.00 p/p sharing, full buffet breakfast included. They have a A la Carte menu for supper,(at own cost) fully equipped rooms for two people sharing, (single or couples)own bathroom facilities. You only need to come and bring some warm clothing for the evening.

Weather forecast looks like a nice starry night, quite chilly but not freezing and a nice evening with fellow riders. We will then leave back home on Friday morning via the N1 to be home about 12:00 if all goes well.

I have reserved 4 rooms p/p sharing. Thus 8 single riders or who ever will pillion. (Please arrange for your own roomie to share). If interested, please urgently reply to this post or phone me to confirm interest. Zero eight two 515 00 nine 2. You will however have to book yourself and pay directly. I am not receiving any money nor can it be paid to the club. This is not a club arranged event and for your own cost and liability.

I can accommodate more if interested but I need some interest shown.Max 10 bikes.

Bookings and payment details will be made available on confirmation of interest to come on this ride.

All riders welcome. Yammies, Hondas, Suzies, Harleys, Vukas,Kawas, KTM's. As long as you can keep up with 120 GPS speed and can enjoy our Fossil camaraderie.

Yes please Cheesy.

Phone Milne Swanepoel at the Hotel on 023 571 1096 to book. I have already informed him that you will book with the Fossil group for Thursday 22/3/2018. His price includes the buffet brekkie on Friday.

Anyone else wanting to join, please do the same. Make your own bookings and payments and we meet at the N1 Engen. Please let me know who will be joining in the ride to make my arrangements.

I had to go and check, I was talking to John on the 30/06/2017 about his recent bicep rupture, so it is just about on schedule for him to be on a bike again.

I am sure he has been having vivid dreams about riding again.

Anyone still without a roomie. Mine had to cancel. Roomie, not a bedmate. R400.00 pp/sharing. Buffet brekkie included.

Thanks Uncle Cheesy.(forgive me for calling you Uncle. Respect).

Then I must also say Uncle Mike Clapham and John Gillespie. Thank you all for coming on this ride with me. You, the old timers of the BMW Club, always ads spice to a ride. Then we had Morne, the  "apprentice / trying to be" pensioner riding with us.  He had very short notice to decide to come riding all tar with his 800 GS and that with a lot of Old Timers. But, thanks Morne for coming with us. We enjoyed your presence and your riding abilities.

Just a brief feedback on the trip.

We left from the Winelands Engen on 22/3 at 08:15 and rode via Du Toitskloof and Slanghoek to Ceres where we had a very brief Geoff RUSSEL stop to stretch legs. From there we stopped at the turn-off to Touws River where we enjoyed our homemade "Padkoss Brekkie". And Boy 'o Boy, what a spread we had. Samies, chicken chippelates, boere worsies, chicken winglets, blou hoender eiers, coffee and a lekker chit chat.

We then departed for Matjesfontein with a quick fuel stop at Touws River. As we had some people with coughing problems, we took some meds(Jaggermeisters, only 2)at the Lord Milne Hotel and left for Sutherland.

Morne, the "midlife wannabe, pensioner" wanted to test himself and the abilities of his GS 800 and was soon followed by Uncle Mike and John up on his tail through the nice twisties on this road to Sutherland.

This is where I once again realized my respect for experienced riders. These old timers can be old, but nothing can beat experience.

Morne unofficially clocked top speed on the GPS of his bike but due to the possible illegality, this cannot be mentioned on this forum. Don't worry, we/he did nothing wrong. You must have been there to see these guys skillfully negotiating the VERLORENKLOOF PASS. As Morne said on arrival in Sutherland, "Sy gat was seer and this was the longest ride on his bike in one day." Welcome to the club Morne. ( We call this "Bum hrs".)

We saddled off at the Sutherland Hotel, (John at a friend) at about 14:15. After unpacking, Milne, our friendly host at the hotel, served us with some nice cooool refreshments.

The supper was a very nice menu and we all settled for the lamb shanks at the hotel. After negotiating with the chef, we all received courtesy "double shanks" of which most had to take doggy bags. I finished mine. Thanks to Milne and his staff.

On Friday morning, we all had a moerse lekker buffet brekkie which was way to much.

We left at 09:14 straight home via the N1 and all reported to be home safe.

Thanks to all riding this one with me. This was an all tar ride with wide open skies all around you, fresh air, sunshine and CHEVROLET, sorry, BMW and lots of BLESSINGS to be able to do this.

Happy Easter to all on this forum. If you go riding, please ride safe.

Jacques BOTHA

PS. If you still want to book for the upcoming Club Winter ride to Sutherland, do so at " info@sutherland.co.za" or call Milne  SWANEPOEL at the Sutherland Hotel.
