I wonder how many of you have seen this kind of rust on a boxer engine as yet? rustrust rust1rust1 I need to thank BMW for replacing this part of the engine under warranty though.
The ride is the destination.

Crumbs Abel, Had you fallen over when you noticed this. Considering your height, I wondered if you ever got this low. :-) This is actually a common sight in Europe where riders use their bikes in all weather, all year round. Two things you never bring near your bike are dishwashing liquid and warm/hot water. These two ingradients accelerate the corrosion by salt which is flung up in miserable weather. Lawrence Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safetly in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadsides, loudly proclaiming WOW, What a RIDE!

Hi Abel, I also remember the looks of corroded aluminum very well. We had that in europe from the salt that was used on the roads in winter to lower the freezing point of water. Maybe you drove through sea water or your bike is exposed to salty sea air. To stop it from spreading I suggest that you take it off with fine sand paper and apply a layer of clear lacquer.
