In the book The Prophet, Almustafa says "A seeker of silences am I, and what treasure have I found in silences that I may dispense with confidence?"
At this time of year I have an enforced leave due to builders holidays, and for the last two years I've taken my bike and ridden solo through the
Karoo.
The first year on my 650 Suzuki V Strom going Villersdorp dirt to Robertson then tar to Barrydale for the night. The next day via Van Wyksdorp Rooiberg Pass to Calitzdorp, then Kruisrivier to Swartberg Pass, into Die Hel out again to Prince Albert for the night. The next day Seekoegat,Rietbron, Klipplaat to Aberdene( were 10 KM out I had a puncture, temp fix with piece of rag and can of punct- fix:tubeless tyre);continued to Graaff Reinet for the night.
This was all before learning about :standing, lowering tyre pressure ,how to fix punctures Ect. I photo copied map pages and rode town to town over coffee and a toasted C&T sandwich deceided the route ahead.I made cell contact with a mate in CT 2-3 times a day in case of help needed.
This was a marvelous time just enjoying the solitude of the Karoo.
Each night unplanned just find a B&B.
