In the book The Prophet, Almustafa says "A seeker of silences am I, and what treasure have I found in silences that I may dispense with confidence?" At this time of year I have an enforced leave due to builders holidays, and for the last two years I've taken my bike and ridden solo through the Karoo. The first year on my 650 Suzuki V Strom going Villersdorp dirt to Robertson then tar to Barrydale for the night. The next day via Van Wyksdorp Rooiberg Pass to Calitzdorp, then Kruisrivier to Swartberg Pass, into Die Hel out again to Prince Albert for the night. The next day Seekoegat,Rietbron, Klipplaat to Aberdene( were 10 KM out I had a puncture, temp fix with piece of rag and can of punct- fix:tubeless tyre);continued to Graaff Reinet for the night. This was all before learning about :standing, lowering tyre pressure ,how to fix punctures Ect. I photo copied map pages and rode town to town over coffee and a toasted C&T sandwich deceided the route ahead.I made cell contact with a mate in CT 2-3 times a day in case of help needed. This was a marvelous time just enjoying the solitude of the Karoo. Each night unplanned just find a B&B.

Ya. I can see you are missing the old V'River already! Nice scoots arn't they? No matter the brand mate, nature is the equaliser. I am a firm believer in non-planned trips. Tonight you will sleep wherever you are. 100% stress relievers. Doing it on your own doesn't mean you don't have friends, it just proofs that you are one happy soul! I believe I can fly!

Kobus thank you,at this stage I have no idea as to when I will depart nor to where, however this kind offer seems to sound like a turning point,I will try to fit it in the route. Basset you are so right friendship often has the connotation of a deepened accuaintance through time and the to and fro of help, but out on the road complete strangers talk or sit quietly with you or even help if required neither expecting or wanting anything in return. A refreshing reminder to the soul.
