Another offer by Your Club for You!!!!!!!! I have had so many requests for us to again present this course to GS riders of the Club (and visitors) so I have done just that. The date for this training will be the 24th November 2007 and it will be held at Nelson Creek Wine Estate. Cost will be R590 per couple the same as last time. Those that are interested and enter will be informed of the finer details in due course. This was what we sent out about the first Rider/Pillion course; I have had many requests in the past about the possibility of arranging a training session for off road riders (GS) and their pillions (passengers). Many members have told me that they ride alone as they do not feel confident enough off road with their partners on the bike with them. I am happy to announce that Leon Croucamp has agreed to run a one (1) day course for us BMW MCC GS owners to be held at Nelsons Creek with the normal tea/coffee/cookies/lunch etc for the affordable price of R590 per couple (yes per couple not per person). The course will cover all aspects of "off road" riding with your passenger and then give us the opportunity to to put what we learn into practice in a controlled environment. However in order for us to offer this price we need a minimum of 10 bikes on the course! Come along guys/girls this is another initiative by "YOUR" Club to help make us all better and safer motor cycle riders. Interested?? Drop me an e mail to geoffrussell@absamail.co.za and I will put the course together. If you complete the course successfully you will be issued with a competency certificate. Dear Geoff Thanks for organizing this. I am keen to do this again with Julie. Please include me in unless there is a government decree. Ideally perhaps we can do a few slightly more advanced things also for the more experienced? Those that are complete beginners on dirt, even if not intending to ride with pillion on dirt, should consider this as a brilliant way to start. r Charles

I have received really fantastic feedback about this training day and about how well it was presented by Leon & Lourens. Below is the mail I sent out to the group that attended the presentation. I will arrange another pillion training in the first quarter of next year. ..................................................... Morning all, By all accounts the training was as always well presented by Leon and that you all learnt a lot and had a good time. Remember that like so many things in life you now need to put into practice what you have been taught. So practice is the key word to ensure that you become an accomplished riding “couple” when off road with your pillion. I take this opportunity to thank Leon for presenting this training for the BMW MCC of Cape Town and also for the preferential rates charged. I now highly recommend that if you have not yet done so you consider attending the “riders” training course with Leon where he will take you to a completely new level of riding ability. Contact him on 0833091597. For those of you that would like to consider joining our Club feel free to attend our last meeting of the year tomorrow night as my guest. If you want to join the club please bring R200 with you. Venue details can be found here: http://bmwmotorcycleclubcape.co.za/node/1 Best regards, Geoff Russell Off Road Events Coordinator BMW MCC Cape.

This was indeed a great day. Everybody was all smiles afterwards. Julie and I liked the first one so much we were here for the second time, and even though we knew what was coming we ''still'' learned a ton in every exercise. After this course, having a trained pillion in tricky terrain makes it easier, not harder. No more ducking into the backup vehicle for Julie when things get interesting ;-) Thanks Geoff, Leon and Lourens. Now, how about some rider/pillion 'kaskenades' at the 'gymkhana' at Nelson's Creek in February? Could be fun and good practise too...

Oops - now it occurs to me we should have a handicap ratio of rider to pillion weight! Although it cuts both ways - a light pillion is less hassle, but also less help ;-)

Hi Geoff We certainly had a great day however we would have loved you and Noleen to have joined us in our antics. This brings me to the point where Laurence has now taught both rider and pillion to stand up before pulling off which went fine until Gis and I stood up and pulled off in neutral……. ??? Needless to say any more? Anyway, fun was had by all.
