Hi Andy, I would like to attend.

Zack

You start the game with a full pot o’ luck and an empty pot o’ experience. The object is to fill the pot of experience before you empty the pot of luck.

I received 7 emails already from members who ask if they may come to this training even though they are new or not ride captains or ever having lead a ride.

You are all welcome to fill the 20 slots.

This will also feature on each years training calendar.

And not always presented by me.

The whole concept is to give current ride leaders some homogenised structure to planning and executing and remembering details to make the ride more worthwhile so I expect every ride leader to attend.

But it is also for anyone who may one day want to  lead a ride or anyone who is interested in investing in this training to learn what the dynamics are.

What I can give you in writing is two conclusions from this training evening.

1) Exisiting rise leaders will say "Nee man, its true and I do not get paid enough to go through all this, they should treble my bonus!?

2) anyone else who has not yet lead a ride will find they respect the ride leader hugely after leanring all that is going on before during and after a ride just so that 20 odd guys n gals can go off tar or on tar to have fun together.

True story.

During the 6 months it took to pen it all down, I constantly asked myself why I go through all the work and not just can it and go off on my own ride, alone or with a buddy.

It seems like nothing but stress, calls, responsibility, worry, and no time to enjoy the ride yourself.

Until you apply the principles and make it  work for all.

But it is the responses after a ride from the fellow riders that make all the effort worthwhile and fuels your soul to go thorugh it one more time.

So if you would like to understand the dynamics, the AARTO Regulations and the ins n outs from prep to asking to constructive feedback, then come along anyway.

Hi

I would love to be there but my weekdays are a bit of a sclep again.  Gonna be out of town a lot over the next few weeks.  If I'm here and there are still spots available I'll attend.

At least I am at home most weekends and the 'bad' weather must clear up soon. (Mike and I are planning a sleep over trip with a twist Laughing. )

Hi Andy,

As always your training sessions are extremely useful and rich with good advice.  Thank you so much.

The question that occurred to me driving home after the session last night was that ICE details were not mentioned at all.  Obviously ths is far more critical for longer rides but surley there is a space for this on any ride.

Your thoughts please.

Cheers Eric.

Many thanks Andy for the time and effort you put into last nights session - As always it was hugely informative and helpful - and if nothing else, gave all of us a new appreciation of the hard work and effort which we have enjoyed from our current crop of fantastic ride leaders.

Hi Andy

Thank you very much for sharing your vast knowledge with us in last night session. It is always nice and very informative to attend these sessions. At the end of the day it makes us better riders and improve both our and our fellow rider’s safety on the rides.

I think that I speak on everybody’s behalf when I’m saying that we appreciate all the time and effort that you put into these sessions. Now we all know how much planning, “hassles” and responsibility goes into organizing and leading a ride.

Thanks to all our ride leaders for making all the trips enjoyable and hassle free for us. We really appreciate everything that you guys are doing.

Hi Andy, thanks a million for what you are doing for our club members. It gives us a broader understanding of the effort it takes to be a ride leader.

Also a big thank you to all the club ride leaders.

Craig, thank you and a good point.

I will include in the notes.

ICE is rider responsibility. Make sure you can be identified when you can no longer articulate that yourself (skunk drunk or dorken)

Make sure you have means of identifying both yourself and the person you want contacted.

For peace of mind and due diligence - On all rides we have your details - mobile phone and email addy accessible.

The 'home office' has this list as well.

They only access it in emergence if someone gets lost or goes off on their own or leaves without paying the bill.....

But alswo in case of emergency.

The club records will show all your details and this the treasurer, co-signatory and secretary will have access to.

So theoretically, ICE we can get hold of next of kin.

In Reality, when a rider falls, he tries to keep this from his next of kin as long as possible to delay the wrath/symnpathy/giggles - which ever applies at the time.

visit icetags.co.za now and order any form of ICE  tag that fits you and your personal requirement- bracelets, watch strap attachment, necklace, dog tag, they got the lot, at very good affordable prices.

I went the Medic alert way-

I have not 'issues' to alert medics to, it is for me merely a means of international fast identification.

I had several discs made and attach to my jacket zip, key ring, watch strap.

It gives no personal details other than a phone number and a serial number.

This allows me privacy the current ICE stickers deny you.

The respondent calls the 24/7/365 number reads your serial number and the Medic alert clerk can confirm by dscription that you are the right person  to be identified and they have all your gen and make the calls.

Tthis also includes medevac costs as well

So MedicAlert is my first choice.

It also notifies that I am an organ donor for useable body parts.

Which is a feel-good bonus, although as I decay further it is becoming useless info as my body parts are all already time-expired already beause I've forced my poor frame to squeeze ±65 years years of activity into 52 year old packaging.

(But don't let that packaging fool you - I am only 34 inside) Heart n soul still young.
