Urgently looking for a working 2nd hand rear shock for 2008 1200gs or advice on an  affordable  3rd party option.

suggest you contact:

ACME salvage, up in JHB, they should have, around 150, yes, 150!

and then Denver Biggs/Bling King/Wilber agent can often help, with OEM shock...
