failure of bearing at 120 000km

So when the bearing goes, it costs R1700 for the new part.

If diagnosed early and done yoyurself, the white grease costs R49.00 in a 50gm tube from South End Stores, strand and nowhere else!!

The 10mm copper washers for the banjo bolt cost R1.20 each

The LHM+ mineral oil fluid for bleeding the system costs ±R 50.oo for 250ml.

DO NOT USE BRAKE FLUID!!!!

Felt seal, costs R58.95.

-  Place bike on the centre stand

-  Remove rear wheel

-  remove seat

-  remove top bolt securing the rear shock assembly

-  disconnect the ESA damper connection

-  disconnect the ESA pre-load setting connection

-  Remove the exhaust silencer pipe (45 torx top n bottom)

- Remove the electronic exhaust throttle assembly at lower root of exhaust silencer pipe (45 torx bolt)

-  Remove the securing the lower end of the shock.

-  Tease the shock off its seat and lay it down in upright position.

-  Loosen securing banlo-bolt (14mm) & remove the hydraulic pipe and raise it to prevent free-draining of the resevoir.

-  Loosen the output cylinder bolts (4.5mm Allen heads) and draw out the output cylinder.

-  Draw out the push-rod and inspect it,

-   clean and then replace the felt washer,

-  apply a very thin film of white grease to the thrust shoulder of the front of the push-rod.

- wipe a thin coat of light oil to the push-rod where it interfaces with gear box.

-  Replace the push-rod taking special care to fit the felt washer carefully.

-  Re-fit the new output cylinder,

-  refit the hydraulic line using two new copper washers.

-  bleed the clutch system.

-wash the rear of the bike thoroughly to remove any oils or fluid.

 

 

I took the opportunity while the bike had its pants off to clean its bum and the swing arm
