Precautions during battery replacement?

I got myself one of those Li-Ion batteries with higher cold crank amps rating to replace my stock standard lead acid battery in a 2011 model 1200GS Adv with.

Are there any precautions I should take before, during or after I removed the old battery and installed the new one (irrespective of the type of course) ? Thinking about accidentally resetting ECU or immobiliser or whatever else electronic on the bike which may require BMW agent intervention if I just dive in to do the DIY job without knowing the consequences.

Thanks

First remove the negative and then the positive terminal when disconnecting/removing the battery. Connect the positive terminal first and then the negative.

Thank you Carel, that's simple enough

Talking about resetting things: on the boxer motors you need to reset the throttle-body control after disconnecting the battery.  The symptom is very rough idling.  Here's how:

  1. Turn on the ignition, but do not crank the engine.
  2. Slowly turn the throttle from zero to full a few times.
  3. Start the engine.
  4. Done.
