This off the beaten track gravel pass has plenty to offer including strictly single width, rugged and dramatic scenery and an awesome campsite at the foot of the pass. Best of all it's a cul-de-sac. You can read up all about the history, built when men were real men and passes were built with pick and shovel. The news release also has lots of other interesting bits and pieces. As usual the featured pass remains open to BMW Club members for the next week. Enjoy!

The owners of Balie's Gat have been in contact with me to advise that they do allow adventure motorcycles, but not quad bikes. The ride down the pass is subject to you taking up a campsite at Balie's Gat.

In the photo there is a secondary road dropping down to the river. It was built to recover a mechanical digger/excavator which rolled down the mountainside. If you look carefully you can see a straight line from the pass down to the river where the feinter road ends. the driver managed to jump off, before it went for its spin down the mountain. the smaller road was built to cut the machine into manageable pieces and sold for scrap.
